Default Curse of the acorns

I knew it was going to happen but I didn't think it would be this soon. Our bucks have virtually disappeared! Understand that here on our little 34 acres of heaven if we don't see 14-18 deer at each feeder, something is wrong!

My son came by today and we went to secure a camera arm base to his 20' ladder stand. We walked through the small funnel where his stand is located and it was covered with acorns! Big post oak acorns. I pulled cards from the 3 trail cams and after the 13th of September all that is showing are does, fawns and a spike buck or two.

Normally I would hope for rain to help rot what is on the ground as soon as possible but quite frankly with all the rain this year I'm tired, and I do mean tired of mowing grass!!!

Thank God we have 3 months to hunt and I know that sooner or later we will get cool enough weather to slow the grass and even turn it brown and we will get rain to rot the acorns that are left and our bucks plus the ones that show in late November, early December will begin to show up.

I love hunting season!

I just got my camera back up last week Bill. I have the same deer hitting the feeder now that were hitting it when I took it down. What was hitting it that 3 month stretch with out a camera is still a question. Good luck next weekend.

Ready to head out to the hill country and check my camera out there though. Afraid the acorns will really hurt me there.

The "experts" will tell you to hunt around them acorn producers! I wonder how many thousands of them are on this little tract of land!

Its the same way in Brady. I put pop ups in the most used oaks.. Its going to be HOT in them but I have to go where the deer want to be.
I guess the deer will be real fat, good luck to everybody

My land owner said they were falling like rain in Brady. I guess I'll be sitting in the middle of them Saturday morning.
