Default string on your trad.

Folks, I have some fast flight that I use for my compound. After some reading, sounds like this is not the best choice for a recurve. That said, what type of string do you use on your recurves? I have read about nylon and daycron. is there a prefered string. And Yes I am gonna build my own strings like I do for the compound....

Wether or not you can use fast flight on your recurve depends on if it was built for it or not. I have one recurve that is built for fast flight and one that is not. I also have two longbows that are built to handle fast flight but I still shoot dacron on them as I didn't notice an increase in performance with ff. I don't build my own strings but from what I've seen if you build the loops up some it should be ok.

What kind of recurve do you have? If it is relatively new, most likely it can handle fast flight. Are the tips built up? That's the easiest way to tell. If your lams are not reinforced at the limb tips, the fast flight will cut into the laminations. For those bows designed for fast flight, you'll see they've reinforced the tips with 3 or 4 extra laminations.

Fast flight doesn't stretch as much as dacron or linen. This, I think, is the primary reason fast flight cuts into the limbs. This is second hand information, so, someone may have better information for you. Tell us, your bow, and I'll get the best information for you that I can.

Default Dacron

The bow is old and it is not reinforced. I have ordered Dacron to make the strings. Thanks for the feedback.

OK, got the spool of Dacron 65 today and made the string. Shot the bow and survived.

It is a 52 inch 50# bow at 28 1/2 inches (my draw) it reads 46# on my scale. Guess I'm legal to sling a stick at a hog.....
