Game Cam Pics - Ray Started it......

I've been busy since Christmas and it wasn't until this past weekend that I was able to go to my place in East Tx. Glad I did because what I found on my game cam has me looking forward to next season. Check out this young buck, he's a main frame 10 and if you look close on the second pic you can see he also had a kicker. He wouldn't have been legal this year as he doesn't have the spread to make 13 inches, but he does give me some hope for next year.....

No the battery went dead shortly after these were taken. I've got it up and running in a new spot I'm thinking of setting up a stand. Just want to see what if anything is moving through that bottom. I hope to had back up in a weekend or two.

Just think that is his head gear in a bad, dry season. If this coming year is better, no telling what he will look like next year. I guess me feeding year around and putting out mineral blocks is starting to pay off, or at least I hope so.

Yep I think he will be. I wasn't sure about the 13 inch rule, but I'm warming up to it more and more. If it is the reason this guy is still around, then it is a great rule...

That's a purdy buck! Good rack and good body....he will definitely be a prize next season.

You mentioned the batteries running out on your trail cam. I'll pass along a little tip after I have used three different brands of trail cams the last four years. I have a Moultrie IR 40 with a solar panel charger that is by far the best overall camera of the three. It's pictures are not quite the quality of my Cuddeback Expert but the battery life (months and months, thousands of pictures) is exceptional. The Cuddeback Expert eats D cell batteries like good cake. When I get back home I'm going to replace the Cuddy with another Moultrie IR 40 with the solar panel.
My other camera is a cheapo Bushnell that gives me what I paid for....not much. It has a problem with sunlight during daytime....a lot of distortion on bright days. It is ok for night time pics and is good on batteries even though it doesn't have a solar panel.
If you are going to rely on a camera for months of use without checking it, you might want to check out the Moultrie.....with the solar panel.

I've rigged my wildgame with a solar panel and rewired it to use a 6volt feeder battery. It depends on what the weather is like on how many pictures I get before the camera shuts down. If it's a lot of sun I'll get a month and 1000-1500 pictures if it's cloudy and a lot of night pictures I'll get 100-300. The nice thing is when I get up there to check the battery is recharged so all I have to do is change cards and turn it on again. Before I was getting 50-100 picutes and four dead batteries to replace.......no fun and not cheap. Here is what mine looks like once I got done. It is easy to move as I have a spike at the base so it can be setup anywhere.
