Some Special Arrows I've Built
A little background on why I've built these. My only daughter is getting married in July and from the time she was a little girl she dreamed of having a Medieavl wedding at a castle. Well we decided to make it happen for her and were in luck to find just a place not too far away. There is a castle in Franklinton, Louisiana set up just for weddings. http://www.louisianacastle.com/
Anyway I've decided to go as an Archer of the time and use my Longbow as part of my props. But I did need period correct arrows and a quiver. After seeing the prices for these on line, I decided to build my own. I've been building arrows for many years, but nothing like these. No glue, no plastic nocks and I cut my own feathers. I did order some period correct broadheads that haven't arrived yet, but here is what the arrows look like so far. Let me know what you think.

Thanks, I don't know who is more excited about the wedding, my daughter or my wife. I can't lie, I think the whole idea is pretty cool.

Nice work. Did you use POC or Ramin or other? The grain looks like Ramin.
My daughter is 10 years old and the thought had yet to enter our minds...

Actually because I never intented to shoot these arrow and the heads I ordered are 3/8 inch, I just used cheap oak dowel rods. I burnt the dowes to bring out the grain and then stained them with walnut. I think they came out looking pretty cool.
I messed up a lot making the nocks on the first few arrows until I found a good method and the 36 inch long dowels gave me a lot of room for error.
I've also decided to build another set using 23/64 POC shafts in the same manner but put either Woodsman or Snuffer heads on them. I'll also likely use 5.5 inches sheild cut feathers for them as well but will install them using artificial sinew to attach them. They should come out pretty good from what I've learned building this first batch. I plan on using this set for shoots and maybe even hunting.
BTW - Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I'll be sure to post pictures after the wedding.

Drat, didn't even think of oak... lol
They look good. "IronDawg" over on tradarcher.com shows how he does his self nocks. Might have something helpful for you to use on the next batch in his posts. I'll see if I can find the "how-to" and post a link to it.
Here it is:

Thanks, that is some good info. Wish I had it a couple of weeks ago, but it will help a lot if I get to doing this more often.
