After the kill..keep carbon arrow or not?

Just wondering how many of you do what. After shooting this hog and seeing pictures of arrows exploding or going into a guys hand, I'm thinking retire the arrow.

Well I can't truthfully answer to that as I have kept arrows for my first kills on deer and turkey but have reused the rest.

Curtis,

I always clean them and flex them...if everything checks out I re-use it. I've actually used the same carbon arrow to kill 7 deer in 1 season. Since I normally hunt out of a ground blind I usually get clean passthrus and the arrow doesn't hammer into the ground like it would from a ground blind.

I shot 7 deer and two hogs over the course of two seasons with the same arrow. Carbon arrows are very durable and I don't mind re-using an arrow...but i always check it and make sure it is ok to shoot.

i'll reuse them after inspection, but change broadhead, or change blades. thats about it.

If it's not broken I just clean it, put a fresh edge on the broadhead, paint a red ring around it below the fletchings and back in the quiver it goes.

I have had aluminum arrows with 3 or 4 rings before retiring them due to damage...most kills on a single carbon was 7 before it broke.

Why clean them? They are just gonna get blood and fur on them again.

I will re-use them if they aren't damaged.

I kept my first deer arrow as a keep sake. Will keep my first trad kill arrow as well.

From here on out they get re-used until they break.

absolutley reuse them with no damage.it will ruin your mojo if you retire an arrow as well as your pocketbook.with todays prices you almost have to reuse them.my personal best was 3 pigs 1 night same shaft and broadhead combo shot two at the feeder 1 early and after checking the arrow i climbed back up to give a while # 2 came out so i flung it .and the last on the trail.i actually thought it was # 2 he just stood there in the light mocking me.the arrow is refletched and ready for # 4 harvest.the broadhead was retired.

I will use one tell it breaks. Then once it does, I will take the arrow I have left shoot them once at a target take the one closest to the bullseye and use it.And so on and on.

When carbons came out years ago that system of one kill and retrieve was common. No longer is that the case. As the guys posted above; multiple animals is VERY normal with todays equipment.
