Default Fallow Deer

Was doing some work on a game ranch today. The manager gave me and two of my son's a tour. My 14 yo became really interested in the Fallow deer. WOndering if any of you have hunted these and where are some of the best places to go. The one we were on sells the animals.. They don't do hunts yet. But are thinking about it in the future. Thanks for the help.

Go to links on this site, we have a couple ranches that do hunts, I think they are Bug scuffle and Double L. Not sure what all they have but they will be good places to hunt. Hope this helps.

RNS... check out Cactus Creek Ranch -- Bob Skelton-owner www.cactuscreekhunt.com 210-844-5864

Bob has some pretty awesome exotics at very VERY reasonable prices. We hunted hogs there earlier in they fall and he was trying to thin his herd of Fallows -- he had too many 3 and 4 year olds on site (would easily qualify at the Bronze level) for either $650 or $750 I forget which. He's got exotics ranging from your basic sheep and goats up the chain to Red Deer, Fallows and probably some of the biggest Axis I've ever seen.

He prices things a bit different than other ranches -- something I like. Basic price is $100 per day with a two day min. For that you get two hogs per day (he's got loads of pigs). If you want an exotic you harvest it and pay the asking or arranged price afterwards. If you hunt and harvest an exotic you don't pay the $100 per day trespass fee -- just the cost of the animal. You'll also be able to take a hog at no extra charge.

I've been to the 'pay X dollars daily for X days' to shoot exotics and hogs before only to see small rams, goats and auodads. At Cactus Creek I've seen nothing but QUALITY animals each time.

Nope it helps

Resurecting this 13 month old thread from the dead in the spirit of more new stuff to read on this forum! Let's see if anyone finds it.

Graybow,
Did you end up going on a fallow hunt and if so, where and how'd it go? I took a nice fallow at Bugscuffle this November. Had never really considered exotics much before that, but now I'm dying to go after a good axis buck as well. It was a ton of fun.

I shot a spotted phase fallow at the Bar E ranch (bareranches.com) a few years back. Pretty sure they still have them.

A far as hunting them in the fall, their antler cycle is about the same as a whitetails. They do seem to carry them a little longer and are usually shedding their vevlet mid-late August so they can be hunted from then on into February.
