Default Big Boy lives......

Well, I'm back from New Mexico taking care of a multitude of chores that accumulated after being away from home for a month.

Some of you might remember a trail cam pic I posted on here back in August....a 10 point mule deer buck I came to know as Big Boy. He graced my camera on August 30 and really got my adrenalin going.....it was like two days before the season opened and I had visions of Big Boy being mine. This is Big Boy....

He didn't show back up until the evening of Sept. 5 after I had conceded darkness and was getting ready to get out of my tree blind. He walked right under me and I got a good look at him and my trail cam caught him once again. This whetted my appetite even more!

I hunted every day.....morning and evening, sometimes in the rain, once I grudgingly got out of the tree when a tstorm got too close. I saw a lot of deer, had many opportunities at lesser bucks and used them as dry run training, waiting for that right shot, the right angle, etc.

After the 5th, I never saw him again nor did my three trail cams. We speculated he got wise and was laying low on the side of the ridge....or possibly met his doom down on the state land.

I made up my mind on the 16th to go ahead and take one of the many lesser bucks I had been seeing and leave Big Boy for my sis-in-law during gun season in November. Maybe I'll have an LDP of him then.

This is the buck I took....he was young and in good shape, but at least a hundred pounds lighter than Big Boy and not near the rack. But it was fun and very exciting and I'm not disappointed. Well.....maybe a little.

That's why they make a next year.
