Are there shoots you can do just for the fun of it? Or is it all serious stuff?

Don't get me wrong, I just have not been to a shoot. I'd go, but I'm not interested in national or state competition stuff. But I would enjoy otherwise getting with some friends to learn and shoot. Does that make any sense? Sorry, just never competed in archery and I don't have the time for it really. But I would like a chance to get the family out more into it.

At any given shoot there are people who are very competitive and trying to win and people who are just shooting for the fun of it.

You will have to pay the entry fee, which goes to help the club stay in business with expenses (like replacing the targets), but you do not have to turn in a score card or even keep score.

I normally know people at every shoot now, but it didn't use to be that way. I would go to the shoot and go down to the practice range. I would strike up a conversation with anyone who didn't like they were really concentrating on their shooting (I didn't want to be a distraction). most folks are nice and willing to talk. Then I would just say...you mind if I shoot in your group.

I can't remember anyone ever saying no. If it was my first time, I would tell them that, and tell them I was not turning in a score. Of course you could sign up in the novice division and see how you do. Just ask about the rules, they differ a little from shoot to shoot.

It can be addicting. good luck

Banana Bend shoots tomorrow, Montgomery County on the 23rd.

Great! Thats what I wanted to know. I honestly just didn't want to go if it was ALL competition. I don't mind competitng a bit. But if I knew that it was all 100% serious competion I wouldn't bother. In other words, I'd go but I'm not looking to try to win a trophy. Just want a bit of experience with it, see how I like it, and improve on my skills a bit while meeting and learning from some others. I guess I didn't realiz if it was like a team thing you had to be on to do this or whatever. And I don't want to be a distration to others that are taking it very seriously. Maybe someday I will make it out to a shoot.

You really should Curtis, it is great practice for hunting.

I have gone to many shoots this summer, and I can't remember a one that I didn't have a new person..many times to archery and not just 3_D, in my group.

If you go will not be sorry. If you go in the greater Houston area...contact me and we will meet up.

Thanks guys. This sounds like something I'd like to do. I'm going to try to find something in the Austin or San Antonio area first. Its a bit closer to me than Houston. But I will make it out there at least once when I decided to do this.
