TX hog hunt
Stopped in TX en route to WY to do some four legged target practice. Roland and I decided to try first thing in the morning to no avail. After some last minute running around to tie up some loose ends, we headed back out to do some bass fishing. The fish were biting, albeit slow and inconsistent due to the weather, things started to pick up. After almost flipping the boat with my GA yank the lips off hook set many times, the couple pounders started to give us quite the run for our money. He forewarned me not to get used to the little ones as the big ones would strike when you least expected it. Too late...the bass hit, yanked the rod right out of my hands, and we both looked at each other in sheer amazement as the rod and reel now turned torpedo took off across the water. After laughing our heads off, we decided to head back to the dock. As we were pulling in, his dog was running around as if he'd winded something. We both looked at each other, threw the gear in the truck with the dog, and took off back to the morning spot. Still dressed in shorts, flip flops, and tshirts, we got back in our lawn chairs and sat. Not even 10 minutes later, we heard something stirring. Evidently, we'd slipped in to our spot where the hog was bedding less than 20-30 yards in the brush. As we concentrated on awaiting the mad rush down the trail less than 5 yards to our left, everything got quiet again. We waited thinking he'd rush at us through the brush, I then felt a tap on my leg as Roland pointed towards the road. Trying to be sneaky walking along the brush down the road, the hog was coming in. Now having to adjust my position, every slight turn he'd stop and look around. As I got turned around and came to full draw, he dropped down on his front legs, just like a warthog. WRONG MOVE! The Atom flew through the brush and hit the money spot, quartering away, completely passing through. He jumped up, ran into the brush, and crash...we heard some grunting and thrashing, then silence. We looked at each other and laughed in disbelief. Not bad for a beach wear hunt!
