Default Breast Cancer Donation to The Rose by the LSBA

The LSBA had a pink bow donated by Bob Wright for our 37th Annual Awards Banquet. Thanks, Bob! We held a card game at $10.00 per card and raised $520.00. Today, the Lone Star Bowhunters Association donated half of those proceeds, $260.00, to The Rose in Houston. Big thanks to all that purchased cards for the pink bow at the Banquet.

Here is a little more information about the non-profit:

The Rose, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) breast cancer organization, offers a full range of breast cancer screening and diagnostic services including mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, breast specific gamma imaging and access to treatment. The Rose is one of the leading breast cancer diagnostic facilities in Greater Houston both in its total volume of women served and in its comprehensive level of quality and state of the art services. It has also become the primary organization providing services at no charge to working poor, low-income, uninsured women. Key to The Rose’s sustainability and uniqueness is that women who have the ability to pay for services help offset the costs for those who cannot pay. This past year, The Rose delivered
90,067 services including: 31,659 screening and diagnostic procedures for those able to pay; 19,053 screening and diagnostic procedures at no charge to low income, uninsured women; 9,073 free patient navigation services to other treatment; and outreach/education to 30,282 people. In addition, The Rose reached 2,063,279 people through media messages.

Uniqueness: Many organizations support routine screening mammograms for women who meet low income, uninsured criteria, but what happens when the screening mammogram is abnormal? The Rose provides everything from education/outreach to screening mammography and diagnostic services, navigation to treatment and support services at no charge to working poor, low-income, uninsured women. The Empower Her® Sponsorship Program is the winner of the American Cancer Society’s Harold P. Freeman Award for exemplary achievement in bringing cancer control and awareness to traditionally underserved, at-risk communities and includes the services of the Patient Navigator and Physician Network.

The Rose also provides Young Women’s Services to women age 39 and under who have concerns about breast cancer. The SomoV™ whole breast ultrasound is a new diagnostic tool that has taken diagnostics to a higher level. The Rose also offers Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging or BSGI, nuclear medicine, as an additional diagnostic option. The Rose Mobile
Mammography Outreach Program has expanded to two units that provide mammography screening to women throughout the Greater Houston Area, which includes Houston and the nine surrounding counties.

Locations: Two sites include: The Rose Southeast (located off I-45/Gulf Frwy, just north of the beltway) 12700 N. Featherwood, Houston, TX 77034, (281) 484-4708, fax (281) 484-5626 and The Rose Galleria (610 Loop S. (feeder, immediately South.of Southwest 59 Freeway), 5420 West Loop South, Suite 3300,Bellaire, TX 77401, (713) 668-2996, fax (713) 668-3173.
E-mail: TheRose@TheRose.org and website: www.TheRose.org In addition, The Rose’s Mobile Mammography Outreach Program reaches women through multiple mobile screening sites, located throughout Houston,
Galveston and beyond (9-counties around Houston). Contact information for mobile screening information: 281-464-5136.

Hours of Operation: Appointments available Monday – Thursday, 8am – 5pm, 8am – 4pm Friday; evenings and some Saturdays at two sites above as well as with scheduled site visits across several counties via its Mobile Mammography vans.
