Default First Point buck down!!!

My father got a call from Nancy late evening Dec. 17, 2007. She let us know she had a few cancellations and did we want to hunt ,TOMORROW? I told my dad I'd get right home and start packing, that was at almost 9pm. I finished packing about midnight and tried to get some sleep waiting for the alarm to ring at 5am. We decided to tow our Samurai down to use there and ended up having a flat on it about 1 hour from the house. We got it changed and got a new spare and were back on the road. A quick grocery stop in Uvalde and we made it to the ranch at 1:30pm. After finishing up allthe paperwork we headed out to pasture 9. I built my dad a quick blind and found a pit blind for me. I saw two smaller bucks and my dad only saw one. I built a great blind and was ready to hunt however the wind changed and I now had nowhere to hunt so I quickly put up a pop up blind back in some brush near the stock tank that had several scrapes and rubs on it. I just knew that I was goint to see a parade of deer heading to the scrapes and water hole. But after an evening and a full morning hunt I had not even seen a deer. With the wind still blowing in the wrong direction for my pit blind I went looking for a new hide on my last evening.
I found one for my dad in an area that he liked and we got it built rather quickly. However after driving our pasture several times I could not find a suitable location for me. Finally out of desperation I decided to build a pit blind in a clump of brush that was on the right side of the road for the wind, however it was literally touching the road. With no time to spare I got it built and quickly went back to camp and got showered up and made it to my blind with just a few minutes before the feed truck came by. About an hour later I had a few does feed up to my shooting window and then run off. Thirty minutes later they fed back from the opposite direction and fed into the window and started fighting over the last few morsels of golden nuggets. They were chasing each other around and standing up on their hind legs fighting when I heard a deer running up from behind me and all the does ran off. I could see hooves moving through the brush of the blind and I could see the nose of a deer feeding on the corn. I leaned forward and realized it had antlers, and the bases of it were pretty decent. I could now see the bucks head and realzed this looked like a mature buck, however I still did not know how big the antlers were. He shot through the window and started chasing does. I figured at this point that my hunt was probably over. Then suddenly a doe is feeding in my shooting window and she makes a wierd sound that I still don't know which end it came out of her. The buck really liked what he heard because he immediately came running over as she trotted off and he started to feed. I leaned forward and he is completely in the shooting window and his body looks to be of a mature buck, so instinct took over and I started to come to full draw. I hit the dirt of the pit blind at about half draw and leaned back to complete the draw. I remember putting my string kisser knot in the corner of my mouth,m and then seeing the arrow pass through as he mule kicks high in the air. He runs a short 25 yards behind my blind and i hear him crash and take his last breath. I start shaking as I always do and realize that I can not sit in this blind for the rest of the evening without letting every deer around me know I'm here, so I get out. There are 4-5 deer around me only 30 yards away and they look at me and continue back to the road. I follow a short blood trail and find him right where I last heard him. I actually have to stop on my way o see him as he is bigger than I thought he was, he just kept getting bigger the closer I walked to him. Finally I laid my trembling hands on him and thanked the Lord for allowing me to take this magnificent creature. I also thank him for my wife who never even gave me one bit of grief to go on this hunt on such short notice. Sometimes when everything seems to be going wrong it all turns out right.
