The 17th annual Texas Parks and Wildlife EXPO was held last weekend at TPWD Headquarters in Austin. The LSBA is a sponsor of the Expo and provides the youth archery range.
“Begun in 1992 as a tribute to hunting, fishing and the Great Outdoors, Texas Parks & Wildlife Expo celebrates its seventeenth anniversary Saturday and Sunday, October 4 & 5, 2008. Texas Parks and Wildlife headquarters in Austin will be transformed into the site of the largest event of its kind in the nation. Last year over 42,000 visitors enjoyed Expo!
What is the Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo? It's an outdoor experience where visitors fish, shoot, kayak, rock climb, mountain bike, see and touch wildlife, learn about recreation in the Great Outdoors and see and buy the latest in outdoor gear and services. Most importantly, visitors can learn how they can help to conserve this precious resource. And it's FREE!
Presented by Texas Parks and Wildlife and a coalition of conservation organizations, agencies and sponsors, Expo celebrates the diversity of the outdoor experience in Texas. From camping and outdoor skills to shooting sports and fishing, from bird watching to paddle sports, Expo visitors have an opportunity to try their hands at two full days of fun in the outdoors.” TPWD Website
For the past two years the LSBA has partnered with the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) to provide the archery range. It has been a great partnership and I look forward to working with NASP in the future.
Special thanks go to Pittman Haymore for once again helping me set up the range at the Expo. Pittman helps with all the youth archery ranges in the north Texas area and our events would not be a success without his help. Thanks go to Steven Blake for storing our 3D targets year round and hauling the targets to all our events. Steven helps at every youth archery event we put on in north Texas and goes above and beyond to support youth archery. Will Rigby, Roy Titsel, Ida Elison, Dan Carlson and Walter Castenada help at the Expo every year and deserve special thanks too.
Thanks to all our new volunteers that helped at the Expo. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Here are some pictures from the event.
