Newbie Question About Draw Length Someone Really Tall

Howdy folks...I used to dabble with bow-hunting with my father back when I was a teenager, and lately I've been thinking about getting back into it for deer hunting. The problem is, I'm very tall and not sure if I can find a bow that I can shoot comfortably. (I've long since out-grown the old bow I used when I was about 14.)

I'm 6'6" tall and have really long arms, and based on the draw length calculators I've found on the web, my draw length should be in the neighborhood of 31.5". However, on most of the websites I've found that sell bows, I see that most of them are only adjustable to a 30" draw length. Can I get by with using that much of a shorter draw length? Are there any compound bow manufacturers that make "Sasquatch-sized" bows? Are there any other recommendations, such as using a mechanical release? I haven't bought any equipment yet and will be starting from a clean slate, so any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
MojoTexas

this may help!!
Also you can add a string loop on the string to increase draw length!!

Great info Brad and welcome MojoTexas, we look forward to your future post.

I know some friends that have 30" draws but they shoot traditional bows, so that may be another option.

That is a GREAT link...thanks! I will probably be buying my bow after Christmas, so I'll just find a reputable archery shop that can help me pick one out. After a summer of practice I should be good to go for next fall.

Maybe that means you will kill Sasquatch-size deer. Good luck to you, Mojo!

Thanks! It's tough finding Sasquatch-sized hunting gear, but thankfully Cabelas carries tall sizes. I'm also relieved to find out that I *CAN* get bows with a draw length to match my long arms. I'm leaning towards a Hoyt bow right now but my mind isn't made up yet.

After hunting this year with a rifle on public land, I'm REALLY looking forward into getting back into bow-hunting and being able to hunt during the rut. Right now, all my trips out hunting are basically "armed hiking" on public land. All I've seen are a few small does, because by this time all the big bucks are nocturnal.

Please come and join us on the pheasant hunt, bowfishing trip or Grunts and Gobbles. You will have lots of seasoned bowhunters there. The equipment on the bowfishing trip is provided & is infinite draw. I believe it should be long enough for you. Come on out and have fun and gain experience while you are at it!

MojoTexas, welcome to the LSBA, if you never been bowfishing, you need to try it. This trip is great because we get to shot those pesty redfish. The pheasant hunt will be a blast, but more of a challenge. although shooting those reds are not as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.

When are the trips? I went through the online calendar and saw a lot of birthdays but didn't see the pheasant hunting or bowfishing listed. If they haven't been pinned down to an exact date, what approximate time of year?
