Here's the letter....

Dear LSBA Member,

Happy New Year, and I hope you’ve had a great hunting season and great Holidays.

It’s time to begin a new year with LSBA!

The first order of business is going to be electing a new Executive Council (EC for short). The EC consists of five Officers, twelve Regional Representatives, and the Magazine Editor for a total of 18 voting positions. Officers are President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Past President. Ten of the Regional Representatives are based on ZIP code regions (75, 76, 77, 78, and 79) and two Representatives are At-Large. All of these are elected positions except for Past President and Editor.

Per our By-Laws, the Officers are to be elected every year for a one-year term, and Reps are elected to two-year terms. Rep terms are staggered such that one Rep per region is to be elected each year. At-Large positions are designed to be filled from the folks receiving the highest number of votes who did not win the election for their Region.

This all is logical and looks nice on paper. However, the reality is that LSBA often struggles with finding people willing to serve on the EC and run for positions, and our current situation is no different. We enclosed a Nomination Form in our last magazine issue, and received a grand total of two returned to us. And those were both from current members of the EC. Unfortunately, the two forms did not cover all of the positions that are open. However, we have to go with the nominations we received. Making things worse, as we begin the new year we have had two folks resign from the EC due to time demands of their jobs, creating more holes to fill.

So here’s the plan…..Please refer to the official election ballot on the back of this page. The slots for which nominations were received have those names pre-printed. Note that you can still write-in names for these positions. Also note that Regions 75, 76, and 79 received no nominations, so write-in votes are needed.

Regions 75 and 76 also need Reps to be appointed to serve the remainder of 2014. If you would like to be considered for appointment, please indicate so on the form.

Please use the Forum on the LSBA website to discuss/promote your candidacy. Go to www.lonestarbowhunter.com, select the Forum, and go to the LSBA Campfire section. The thread will be titled, “2014 LSBA Election Information.”

One note for those who are interested in serving – we do hold EC meetings via teleconference now, so serving on EC no longer means obligations to travel cross-state to attend meetings. This has worked very well for us this past year.

If you are interested in helping the LSBA, your state bowhunting organization, improve what we do and how we do it, please consider serving on the EC in 2014! And please vote for those you think would do the best job for LSBA this year. Returned ballots must be postmarked or scanned/emailed by February 8th, 2014.

Thanks for supporting LSBA!
