Last weekend of the season- doe and spike

Heading out after work today for our ranch. Still have a few tags eligible to fill. I will be hitting the hand corn spots tonight when I get to the ranch and then get after them starting Friday morning through Sunday morning.

Anybody else going for a final hunt?

Good luck.

This is our last weekend of the general season and I have had a small delay in getting to the ranch, but will be heading out sometime tomorrow. Not looking real good with high temps and full moon, but I will still be hunting. Then we start our spike and doe season.

I worked a half ER shift until 0200hrs yesterday morning, grabbed a few hours of sleep then had my half day of clinic patients. Drove to our ranch. Just got done checking stands and feeders. Grabbing 5hrs of sleep, then it's game on. I'm running 9 spots, 5 corn feeders and 4 hand corn spots. Not sure where I'm going in the AM, depends on wind and weather. But the forecast is looking good for fresh backstraps.

Hunting with the recurve.

Had a great sit. It was a bachelor party. Saw a great old ten point, a HUGE young 8. A small 8 trying to sprout g-4's, a young 7 and young 6 and lastly a momma with twins who were the size of our house cat...so she got a pass.

Probably one of the best sits of the year.

This is why we are running more hand corn spots and using feeders less. We get so many more mature bucks in bow range this way.

We have 5 feeders, 4 hand corn sites and hope to add another 3 hand corn spots over the next year.

Sitting here in my blind watching squirrels and they are driving my JRT crazy. She can hear them but can't see them. She can't see out the window thank goodness. Doesn't look like I will be killing that big buck this year again.

That's hilarious. I remember I was Bowhunting below my inlaws house at the ranch. My yellow lab, found a hole under the gate out of the yard and came walking down the trail to the blind. He was younger then and hated being separated from me or my wife. I opened the blind door and he jumped in.

Nothing like a good dog!

Well I finished the season with a couple of does. I had Abri with me on both sits when I killed them, but she didn't have to do any tracking. The first doe I dropped and the second was pumping so much blood that it only made it to the bottom of the dry river bed. I did let Abri think that she found it still.
