Default ABC Hog Hunting

Who's been? Any advice for newbies? Going in March with some friends and trying to get some heads up on what to bring, what not to bring. Mainly what I want to know is do they allow night time hunting? If so, are there any feeder lights? Can you corn the roads or spot and stalk or are you restricted to the stands? Thanks for any info.

Chew, just carry enough arrows and broadheads. They allow night hunting and at least one of the feeders has a light installed on it. Another feeder had a remote on it.

The hogs make a circuit through the pasture at spin time. Expect to see them. I'm sure, if you want you could probably corn the road, but the roads are fairly clear with no cover except for one bend in the back of the pasture. You could probably carry a lockon and set up down on the creek, but I don't think it will be necessary. You'll probably not need to deviate from the established stands and feeders unless you just want to.

Just don't shoot his does...

It was last December when I was there, so things may have changed. He basically gave us the run of the place after he gave us the "tour". Said we could hunt his stands or set up our own. We even did some stalking which got crazy exciting. Lot of hogs on the place that weekend.

Yessir Chew, David has a pretty neat setup. I went with Tracy last year and then again back in Sept....He has a lot of hogs and like Tracy said they are pretty well set on making the run thru all the feeder areas when they go off. He has made a few changes since the first time I went and works really hard to make sure all the feeders are working and wants you to get on some hogs! Once he turns you loose, the pasture is yours to use as you see fit (Davids words after showing you around) and the night hunting is a HOOT!!

The place is set up in a big U shape and there are a lot of areas that you could corn on your own and set up your own blind or area if you wanted to.

If you ever go and need another bow to fill a weekend, holler! I would be glad to meet you there and hunt with you.

Thanks guys for all the input. I'll post on here if we need some more people. I think we've got 5 so far.

What an offer Tim! I wished you lived closer....I'd borrow one and think about buying four!

Thumbs up

Chew - I hunted Richard's place (ABC) in Sept w/Danny (yleecoyote23) and Higee (TBH). We had a good time hunting hogs in the night and several porkers hit the ground.

We helped Richard fill the feeders as we got the tour of the ranch. He informed us his rules and gave us free reign of the place. As the night went, he helped us find the hogs that we shot w/the aide of his lighted tractor.

He prepared a meal for us Sat evening before the hunt that was pretty darned good. Catfish, hushpuppies, and tatertots along w/some hunting stories......a good time was had by all.

The facilities are more than adequate. I have to warn you though.....stay out of the recliner closest to the wall in the trailer.......it's way comfy and causes you to snooze when you least expect it. It was quite warm while we were there, so the shower was a much appreciated thing to have. The beds were comfy as well.....not to mention a flushing toilet.

The stands were all in good shape and easy to make shots from. The bus was something that seemed a little odd.....but it was the scene of more than one shooting. Take plenty of arrows, make your shot, sit still and get ready for the next shot.

Like Danny mentioned, if you need another hunter to fill a slot, let me know.....it'd be nice to hunt w/Danny again and meet yourself and some other bowhunters too. We had seven hunters when we were there and had no problem accommodating everybody.
