Membership drive hog hunt

I got a sow about 65 - 70 pounds with a 15 yard shot. Gonna try to do up an article for the magazine. Here she is:

I didn't do too well in the picture taking arena. Hopefully, I'll be able to draw a picture with words. 52#@28" Great Plains longbow, Port Orford Cedar arrow with a 130 grain ribtek broadhead whole arrow weight 535 grains. Double lung with aortic artery. 90 yard recovery.

It was a fun weekend. Very action packed and satisfactory shot opportunities. Great living quarters. Take VHS tapes to watch and spoons and forks. You'll enjoy it.

He has 6 feeders set up with 5 stands and one pop-up blind. You can carry your own stand if you choose or blind. The trailor will accommodate about 5, maybe 6 with 4 being the preferred. There were two of us, which gave us a room a piece.

The golf cart is really handy. I probably coulda got more than the one, but I didn't really push my limits like I could have. I was hoping the other guy could close the deal on one himself, but he's still rather new to traditional and was having a distance judging dilemma.

I missed one, hit one high that went on to root another day and drilled this one. You know, their spine is practically in the middle of their body mass? Wow. I didn't know you had to shoot THAT low. BTW, in case I didn't say it before, this is my first hog. So it was a learning experience.

Mike, I either hunt with a gun or a trad bow. I tried my hands at using a compound and it just didn't work out between us. More power to those who use them. Just not my bag.

The funny thing is, I hit the spot I picked and almost got her spine. Gonna have to keep that in mind for future hog hunts.

I'm back to the wheelie thing :shock: Not enough time to practice with the ol Recurve. Funny thing is, a few weeks ago while working with the kids from Cross Trails Outfitters at The Bowzone, I flung some arrows with my recurve for the first time in well over a year and was stacking them in real tight at 20 yards! I mean 3 inch groups consistently! Maybe since I was just grippin and rippin and not 'thinking' about it was the ticket?

Though I do console myself with shooting my compound in that it is an O L D Carroll-Marauder with energy wheels, single 20 yard O L D fiber optic pin and not too much faster then my recurve :roll: I am getting about 182 fps out of the TQ Longhorn and about 212 out of the Marauder...definetly not a barn burner...LOL.

Congrats again and yeppers...ya got to hold real low and tight on them piggies. Their lungs are way forward and their heart is only and inch above the chest. Ya either get it or ya miss it. Like ya found out..ya shoot center mass and you spine em...not a bad thing either....ask Tomme as that is almost all he gets on his 8) . Except his first trad hog that he shot right through the heart. I know as I helped drag that damn thing a few hundred yards in 100 degree heat in August at Brushy Hill :shock:

You do what you gotta do Mike. Can't fault you for that.

I'd hunt with just about anyone that chooses to hunt with me. Just because our equipment is a little different doesn't mean we're enemies. I'd hunt with you any day Mike, even if you were sporting a crossbow! And I don't care how many topics I disagree with Tomme on, we've still got the same objective in preserving bowhunting in the state, we just view it from different angles. That and I'm much purdier than he is. :twisted:

Either way, thanks for the congrats. Hope we'll eventually get to do a hunt together.

Do we disagree on stuff? Can't say I remember a single topic. But then again memory is not my long suit these days. :?

I do agree a 100% on the shoot hogs low. That spine is only about half way up and the heart is at the very (and I do mean very) bottom of the body.

Now as to the concrete pig going to fall at the Grunts and Gobbles, I'll have to see it to believe it. That this is cursed.

It'll fall. Especially if you have someone like Buff or Chunky along. If Buff goes, the concrete nemesis doesn't have a chance.

I hope I'll get another chance to go to the Fellowship hunt again one of these days. This coming year and last I had prior arrangements. We'll see about 08.

My backwoods foundation brings me into disagreement with many modern hunting ideas. :? I'm trying to be more open minded lately though. :?
