Default Thompson Temple Hunt

Well this weekend was a blast. The trip started out a little rough with me havin to drive from Saint Jo to Stephenville in the snow. We finally got to Thompsons at 6:45 Friday evening and got all settled in. We all made a game plan for the Saturday morning hunt then went to bed around 10:00. The next morning came way to quick but I was up at at 'em anyway. Kayla was a little slower gettin around but she got up. She was gonna sit in a pop-up behind Thompsons house lookin for a Painted Desert Ram and I was gonna get in the Mountain Pasture and help a couple guys get their rams because they had to be one early. Well we were able to accomplish our mission in time for them to leave then we headed to the A-frame for breakfast and a little fellowship. After breakfast I decided to give spot and stalk aoudad hunt a try. I slipped into the area they were seen hanging out and bumped them before I realized they were there. Fortunately they only went about 100 yards then went back to milling around but they were pretty wary from then on. If someone tells you that it is near impossible to do a spot and stalk bow hunt on an aoudad you can believe them. Those dang things have some sharp eyes on them. I spent 3 hours after I found them sneeking and slipping up and down those rock hills. I crawled on my hands and knees and on my belly up and down the rocks. Every time I would get close enough to get a shot I couldnt get a clear shot at the vitals on any of them. Finally the aoudad got above me and I was able to crawl up to the ledge and peak over it. I saw one standing slightly quartering away with a clear shot at its vitals and only 25 yards away. I clipped my release on my loop and slowly raised up and came to full draw. I settled my 20 yard pin exactly where I wanted my arrow to hit since I was shooting uphill and squeazed the release trigger. I saw the arrow hit exactly where I wanted it and the aoudad only went about 20 yards fortunately down hill then piled up. That is by far the hardest I have ever had to work to get an animal once I had my eyes on it. I got back to camp and one of the other guys decided he wanted an aoudad so back up we went. I spent the next 5 hours slipping and crawling up and down hill trying get a clear shot at one. We got on them and had them within 20 yards several times but just could not get a clear shot. We gaveup at dark and headed back to camp. We got back to find out that my Daughter had managed to stick a ram. It wasnt the Painted Desert she was after because a bigger Corsican showed up and she whacked him instead. Here are the LDP's
