Default Many moons ago....

The LSBA used to put on a state broadhead shoot in the 1980's.
I attended one just north of Austin one time(1984,85), and I believe that the next year it was held in north east Tx. somewhere.
What ever happened to that shoot?

The LSBA held a state broadhead shoot starting in 1975, the 1st one was held at College Station hosted by the Brazos Bowmen. Over the years, they were held at different locations and hosted by various clubs or in some cases, if land was furnished, LSBA volunteers put the shoot together. I believe the one you spoke of north of Austin was on the Beard Ranch and I was one of the folks that had a hand in setting it up.Those were the days before 3 D targets. we used the paper animal targets mounted on styrofoam blocks.
The shoots were fazed out by the cost and lack of available libility insurance coverage because we were using broadheads. ( Too bad, they were a lot of fun)

Thanks Ron, I am sure the insurance would be very high for such an event!!

The only one I attended was a blast. I remember that some of the targets were the Stanley Hipps silhouettes. I know I would hate to have to go in there and chain saw some of that cedar, I counted in one cedar tree 4 broad heads.

Yep, that was the one I set up. Do you remember the 6 foot armadillo at about 60 yards in the open field? There was a large pile of empty Lone Star cans that we used as bait,
Yes, the cedar trees took thier toll!!!

It is too bad that insurance has gotten where we can't do broadhead shoots. One of the most valuable lessons I learned in my second year of bowhunting was that my unvented, four blade Satellite broadheads would PLANE!!! Yep that's right, they didn't hit the same spot as my field points.

Maybe it wasn't the Satellites. I still like to shoot a practice broadhead into styrofoam before I go out.

I personally think that insurance companies are nuts. Would the lawsuit be any lower if someone was skewered by a field point?
