Unhappy John Cecil Culpepper Jr. RIP

An icon in Texas Bowhunting and in helping Texas grow has passed away. John Cecil Culpepper Jr passed away Saturday night.

John was inducted into the Texas Bowhunter's Hall of Fame in 2007 (I think it was 07..) (Micheal was inducted at the same time.)

I hope to see some of you there.

Very sad.

I only met the man a couple of times at LSBA banquets but he was a true Texas gentleman. I'm proud to visited with him a few times on the phone and to have handed him a "Legacy Member" plaque to celebrate his dedication and work in the early days of the LSBA. I talked to several of the "Legacy Members" that year and nearly everyone of them would mention John's name as having been critical to the success of the LSBA during those first years.

Roger has had the pleasure of running some of Mr. Culpepper's articles recently accounting some of his bowhunting adventures for mountain lion and bear...think I'll go back and re-read them tomorrow.

RIP, Mr. Culpepper.

My heart goes out to the Culpepper family.

I had the pleasure of meeting John at the 07 and 08 banquets and conversed through email and snail mail a few times. I owed him a response to a very nice letter he had written shortly after this years banquet. I deeply regret I never got around to that now. I knew him for a very short time, but he called me his friend and I considered him my friend too.

May the Great Spirit guide you and keep you John. May He watch over your family in their time of grief.

It is always sad to lose an Icon in the world of archery, but for me, John was a long time friend. John was my sponsor into Regular Membership of P&Y many years ago. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with the Family.

Mr. Culpepper was not only a charter member of LSBA, (and I believe a past President), but also made his office available on numerous occasions for EC meetings. Sorry to hear of his passing. Hope to meet him in the Happy Hunting grounds again someday.
