Default Round 2 Turkey Hunting Weekend

Well we got a late start on Friday getting up here but we still got here to make a evening hunt. When I got to my blind the rains and weeds have not been good for me. Weeds were over 3 feet tall. I could not see under my feeder. I walked up to it to try and knock some of it down and woke a family of pigs up that were sleeping there. I tried breaking pulling and kicking the weeds but it just wasn't working. So I figured I would just make the best of it for the evening. Dena was sitting in her blind and had several groups of hogs come by her but she was holding out because her friend Dora was coming down and hoping for her first bow kill.

Hunter texted me and said that she had some jakes come by her and were then heading my way. After about an hour they showed up but didn't like the tall weeds and I could just barely see their heads. So I knew then that it wasn't going to be good if a big bird showed up. Then the family of little pigs came back and all I could do was listen to them eating my corn up. I went ahead and got out about 30 minutes before dark so that I could go back to camp and get my brush cutter and cut the weeds down.

So back in the stand this morning I hear gobbling on my way in and look forward to a good morning. I immediately go to work on my new Baker Boy turkey call.

I get a response back. So we go at it a few times when a different family of pigs come in. I try to scare them off but no luck. So I figured I would wait them out and hope that maybe a big boar may be somewhere close by and come in. I keep working on my Baker Boy box call and the 5 jakes from the day before show up and they have been here ever since.

So now, I have the 5 jakes along with the pigs hanging out.

I am hoping that a older bird showed up. Hunter hasn't had anything this morning yet so stay tuned. Well, the morning wasn't what we were hoping for. We didn't get anything, and hoping that the afternoon will be better.

Back in the stand for the afternoon hunt and hoping for better luck. Hunter is out in her blind, and Dena and Dora are hunting in Dena's blind hoping for Dora to get her first bow kill. Things are pretty slow and finally a bearded hen shows up at mine.

Finally I get a report from Dena that some small hogs have showed up but they were going to wait a bit to see if any bigger ones would come in. After a while, I finally get a txt that Dora made a good shot on a small boar. After a little wait time, they go out and find the arrow with good blood on it, with good blood on the ground. They track it into some thick brush and ask that I go get Abri to come find it. After a short track, Abri found the pig on the outside of the thick brush. Congrats to Dora on her first bow kill.

We went another weekend without taking a turkey, but there is always next year.

That's it? No blood? Oh, I did see Dora let a little out. Good for her. Just giving you a little heck. I'm sure y'all had a great time.

None for me, glad Dora was able to come through for us.
