Talking LSBA Spring Fellowship Hunt

Okay, now that our frozen trip to Elm Creek is over, it's time to think about the next Fellowship Hunt. That will be the SEVENTH ANNUAL GRUNTS & GOBBLES HUNT AT BRUSHY HILL. Details below:

Hunt- Grunts and Gobbles VII

Date - March 26-28, 2010 - Noon Friday through Noon Sunday

Place - Pete and Ava Denney's Brushy Hill Ranch - Sabinal, TX

Bag Limit 2 Turkeys and Unlimited Feral Hogs

Price - $150 for the 2 day Hunt - Price Includes Bunkhouse

KIDS 16 AND UNDER HUNT FREE - (there is a $25 bunkhouse charge per kid)

Grunts and Gobbles T-Shirts available for $15 (must be ordered in advance- Deadline March 5,2009)

Contests - Concrete pig contest for traditional shooters (I'm going to win this one) and a balloon shoot on Saturday for everyone.

You must be an LSBA member to participate, but heck if you're not the hunt is cheap enough that the extra $25 is a bargain.

SPACE IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 45 BOWHUNTERS WITH A PAID NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT OF $75.00. Make checks payable to LSBA and mail to LSBA c/o Grunts and Gobbles, 117 Hwy. 332 W., Suite J #101, Lake Jackson, TX 77566.

A lot of crazy people have been going on this hunt every year. Tall boots or hip waders highly recommended around the camfires. Brushy Hill is a 13,000 low fenced ranch located about 4 miles south of Sabinal. We will probably be hunting 3 of the 4 pastures but might go to all 4 if we come close to filling up. Any questions feel free to contact me at the contacts below or talk to Biggen (Brad Adams) or rns (Ronny Strickland).

I was setting you up Brandon. All of those misses were deliberate so I could pull you in for the big bets on this hunt. Besides winning that concrete pig trophy is like the lottery. Sooner or later someone will win it, so it might as well be me.

Also, no one is to call Biggen at the number above and ask about me. He is a well known purveyor of untruths (except for the few times he has actually admitted that I am a better hunter than he is.....or did he say luckier hunter??).

What's the best way to turkey hunt Brushy Hill. Do you set up a pop-up brush it and wait? Do you set up around feeders or on the corn route? I think Marshall (my 10 yr old) would have a blast just wondering about shot opportunities and shot distance.

I am by no means an expert on this because I have only been one time on the G&G but what I saw the time I went was to listen for the turkeys and then try and set up and call them in. Don't sit around the feeders because the animals will stay away from them. Find a good place to set up on the feed route and hunt it. Bob

I agree with Bobster on listening for them and moving to where they're at. Feed route is good. I don't know that the turkeys are as spooky around feeders as would be deer and hogs. One fellow on a hunt told me that when the feeder went off a gobbler was trotting up the road to it, until of course he saw the hunter.

Strickland is probably the best person to answer this as he is a lot better turkey hunter than most of the rest of us. I think it's kinda that old takes one to know one.....

I told mine last night and was told not to plan anything yet. I'd forgot that her nephew was planing on coming down form Ohio in March to do some Hog hunting but the dates aren't set yet. Not sure if he bowhunts or not but I plan on finding out.......
