Default LSBA Sponsoring Archery Events at the Texas Police Games

This year the Lone Star Bowhunters Association is a proud sponsor of the Texas Police Games' Archery Events, which is held by the Texas Police Athletic Federation.

If you are a law enforcement officer or fireman, please consider registering for the archery events and bring a guest! More participants will insure that archery continues to be offered as an event in the Texas Police Games. The numbers have been in decline the last several years and we want to change that.

So, somebody tell me about these games. Will my hunting bow suffice, or do I need to do the target bow set-up.....Toying with the idea, but have never shot 3-D, just a hunter....

TPAF RULES

Categories
Categories are for men and women, no age limits. Each category will have 3 classes of competition.

1. Pins & Releases (Aided) (12 inch or less stabilizer)
2. Releases, Scopes, & Adjustable Sights (No restriction on stabilizer)
3. Traditional
Events
Events will be the following for both men and women.

1. 3D targets
2. Field event
3. 300 inside range

3D
The archer has to guess the distance to the target as well as the location of the higher scoring ring on the target. Score is higher for the archer closest to the center score ring. Archers will keep their own score.

Field Event
A Field tournament is comprised of two ranges, a field and a hunter. Each range has 14 targets with 4 arrows shot at each target. The maximum value per target is 20 points. Each arrow has a max value of 5 points. Ex: 4 arrows x 5=20. 20 points x 28 targets = 560 total points per day. The field range has marked distances from 20 feet to 80 yards. All distances are divisible by the

five (5). Ex: 20, 35, 60, 15. There is no particular order to the targets. The first target can be at 40 yards and the second can be at 15 (feet or yards) and so on. The maximum distance is 80 yards. The hunter range is also marked but the distances are not necessarily divisible by five (5). Ex: 32, 26, 44, 11 yards. The maximum distance on the hunter side is 70 yards. Each target is marked and indicates how the target is to be shot. There are four (4) different ways to shoot targets. Standard, Walkup, Fans and Birdies
Standard, competitors shoot all 4 arrows from the same spot.
Walk-ups, competitors shoot one arrow at each target. Ex: The 80 yard target is a walk- up. Competitors shoot one arrow at 80, 70, 60 and 50.

Fans are targets in which competitors shoot the same distance but fan out to different spot on the line to shoot each arrow.

target => O

shooting line=> - - - -

Birdies are targets competitors shoot from short distances. The birdies on the field side are also a walk-up and are shot at 35, 30, 25 and 20 feet. On the hunter side they are all shot at 11 yards. The birdies usually historically have a greater level of difficulty if the competitor has never shot them before.

-Indoor 300 Round
This is shot on an indoor range at 20 yards. There are 12 rounds or ends with 5 arrows being shot per round for a total of 60 arrows with a possible high score of 300. Each archer will shoot 5 arrows per round at either a spot or a 5 spot target. Archers will keep their own score.

Hope this helps and hope you get to attend. Bring some other law enforcement fiends with you.

Your hunting bow should be fine. That is what Bobby uses. We never really shot 3-D either when Bobby started shooting in the Police Games a couple of years ago. We both shot last year and I shot my recurve. You will see target bows, hunting bows and trad equipment. Come on out and shoot!

Jo Ann, I think Dena can answer that better than me since she has been the one to bring home the gold. I cannot remember if any of the guest shot trad against her. Bob

If anyone wants to shoot in the Police Games, please contact me by PM, email or at 409 739-2630. Each officer can sponsor 2 guests each this year. There are several officers wanting to sponsor 2 shooters. It is going to be fun!

Registration is $60.00 for all three shooting events. Hotels are listed on the website.

Well the trip was made and many, many, many arrows were flung at targets from 60 yards, 50 yards, 40 yards, and then indoor at 20 yards, and then on to the 20 target 3-D course. I would like to think the LSBA for help in sponsoring the Texas Police Games this year. We had our banners being flown and have a banner inside the official program for the police games. I have to say, we still did not have a great turn out for the fun. We had right at 30 shooters. I did manage to bring home two silver medals this year in traditional. I just could not get Bish to make a mistake. Bob

Bobby,
Congrats on the hardware! Glad to hear you had a fun time. Hopefully, I will get to be there next year.

Congrats to Dena and Bisch too!

I think Bisch was using this Tx Police Games as a warm up to the Tx Recurve Championship.
