Default Thing were Tough in East Texas

With the lack of rain our creek has dried up and there is no water within a mile or so of your place. Made for some tough hunting as the deer were few and far between only moving through our place at night, but I was getting very few pictures. On Friday I bit the bullet and put out water troughs at two feeders with hope it would help. Since all our water comes from captured rain I really didn't want to use any for this purpose even though our tanks are pretty full, not sure when we will get rain to refill them. The rain on Sunday missed our place so it is still as dry as it was. Either way the water troughs helped as I had more pictures Saturday night/Sunday morning than the whole rest of the week. If I had not decided to sleep in on Sunday morning and cook my wife breakfast I'd like gotten a shot at a ugly 3 pointer that needs to be taken out. Oh well that is Murphy's law in play again. Here is a picture of that 3 pointer and one of a bigger buck I want to get a better look at. Also I have Little "D" watching over one of the feeders while I'm gone and I included a couple pictures of him, let me know what you think of this idea.

Here are a couple of Little "D" on the job.

Oh and I had a great chat/meeting with one our the Angelina County Wardens, Tim Walker. I had been in contact with the wardens up there to get them keys to my gates, but we hadn't been able to meet before now. Anyway it turned into an hour plus visit with Tim very interested in my bows. He is going to come back sometime when there is enough light to give them a try one of these days....

Sorry to hear about the luck, Derek. The dry weather can sure change the deer's patterns that you spent years getting to know.....I'm dealing with that, myself.

Sometimes the lack of rain can work to your advantage, though if you can provide them with a regular supply. But I understand your dilemma in using up your water on hand.

I like the idea of Little D up in the chair! It definitely can't hurt your chances but ought to condition the deer to seeing something up there. I may put something like that in my tree in NM. Good luck!

Thanks Ray and good luck to you as well. Lets see some pictures of Little R if you get one setup....LOL

Also I'm going to go get a couple of 30gal barrels to carry water with me to fill the troughs, so I'm hoping they get use to having water with their meals.

BTW be thinking about coming over for a hunt the last weekend of the season 28th-30th. I hope by then I'll have them some what figured out, or have them coming back more regular.

Larry.......LOL Actually Little D has a new home at the other tripod. I got burned on this stand the first time I sat it, so I pulled down the tripod and put up a ground blind. Things were much better last weekend now that I have water at the feeders.

First one was 228 lbs, second was 209. Both 16 1/2".
