Default Fellowship Deer hunt?

Are there any plans for an LSBA Fellowship Hunt during deer season this year?

I have been on a few LSBA hunts for goats and hogs. Would like to participate in more.

Why do I get the feeling that I just volunteered for the Hunt Committee???

Let me try this again...anyone want to plan a group trip at a fine day hunting facility this season? I don't have a season lease again this year and have no plans yet but would like to visit one of our sponsor ranches at least one weekend this season.

Looks like there's plenty of interest...let's hear some feedback on where/what to hunt. I'm open to a hunt at BAO, Brushy Creek, Hunt's Bowhunting, Bar E, ABC, Double L, etc...anyone that has shown support for the LSBA in recent years. It's probably too late to try to put together an official "fellowship hunt" but we could put together a group hunt without too much effort.

What interest you other guys the most?

Brush Country will accommodate about 10 - 12 hunters. I'd have to ask Smitty, though, to see if he has anything open for deer season.

BUT, I won't have money to do a deer hunt this year at a day lease. Saving it for going to Brush Country in April.

Brushy Hills would be a good choice too. I couldn't keep the deer off me when we were there for the G&G. Not a bad price either.

Sorry I hadn't posted on this, but it's been a busy summer and I haven't been on the site that much. Biggen sent me an email and it warms the cockles (or is that cockleburrs) of my heart to see this kind of interest.

There is no official hunt planned by the hunt committee for deer season, but you guys have the ball rolling and have the right idea. I might throw in Elm Creek Ranch near Bracketville as a possible source (for deer). He's an LSBA (advertiser) and he had some nice deer.

I'd also be interested in doing a Hunt to Brushy Hill (maybe the Kraegor Pasture) in January. I'd probably go down for four or five days, but could be a come and go (two day hunt) around it.

Joey, I'd suggest you move quickly, as a lot of places are already booked up for November and December. If your group is willing to go in October or January, you may find ranches with openings. If you're going in November, let me know and I'll try to make it.

Let me also throw out an alternative public land option, which would be a Ft Hood hunt in mid November. Here's some advantages of Ft Hood.

1. Centrally located
2. Relatively cheap - (Last time I hunted the annual permit was $105)
3. No cap on permits so if a lot of people wanted to come, you can fit them in.
4. They have bowhunting only areas as well as bow and rifle.
5. It's a big place.
6. By the way, the annual permit also allows you to hunt Spring Turkey, squirrels an small game all year, dove and quail during season.

Negatives

1. You really need to go down sometime before the hunt to process paperwork. This includes, having your car registration and insurance card to get a pass to get on post. Buying your permit at the Rod and Gun club. You also have to take a proficiency test, but it's pretty easy. Finally, with your hunting permit, you can get a Post access pass, good for six months, which you show at the gate to get on post. All of this takes time and I'd recommend getting there early in the morining on a M-Th to get it done.

2. Another disadvantage is you will have to camp or stay at a local motel as there is no bunkhouse like at a regular ranch.

3. Still it's a possibility that might be worth some discussion and a group trying out.

I like the idea of promoting public land bowhunting opportunities. It might easier through TPWD's program though (and might even score some points with them)....and it's cheap too!

Any of you guys interested in holding a group hunt on a WMA one weekend? Maybe one in each region at different times so a person could make more than one hunt for the cost of the Annual Permit?

I'm interested. The State Park over here is kinda crowded for hunters, but would be interested to hunt east Texas for sure.

What's the one over near Paris? Pat Mayse???

I too would probably be interested. I just need to know what I need to do and where I need to do it to get a permit.
