I know I am probably not the first to bash this guy, but I saw his woodland caribou lastnight on VS. I laughed so hard. This guy is terrible terrible. I know some of you guys are friends with him, someone teach this guy how to take ethical shots. Buff where you at help this guy out.

I agree with ya. That was the worst hunting show I have ever seen. I lost all respect for him after I saw that show.

he drives me nuts running his head about do it "The hard way, the Barta way".... it embarrasses everyone that hunts with Trad gear.

Glad someone else saw it that way. A running 45 yard shot....wow. But then I see it posted every day guys bragging about "spining a deer", not finding shot deer, doesn't know enough about blood tracking that he mobilizes the internet s group to search to find his "trophy"...eventually needs dogs. And he's braggin and nobody calls him out....

Barta just reinforces..."just shoot and hope for a hit". I find a dozen deer skeletons every winter scouting.

I'm so disgusted I don't read the forum anymore.

I think he does it on purpose. Wants people to think its a lot harder than it really is to hunt with a longbow. I think his sponsors are trying to discourage the use of longbows and opt for the more expensive tech bows.

He is hooked up with 3 rivers... which is good. He is fortunate to hunt in some fantastic places and all and all seems to be a good shot. I just wish he didn't beat on the wheely bow folks so much. Most of the Trad guys I hunt with have no problem with them. I encourge new archers to start with the most high tech gear they can get their hands on.

I've been wanting to try a Traditional setup. Got the land now to be able to practice often..

What do you guys recommend. Brand/Pull Weight/Short lenght for hunting? Where can you go to see/feel some side by side. What's the price range for a high quality bow.

Should I start light and work up in poundage (can you get different weight limbs for modular riser?

I'm 5'11 205Lbs a can pull 80# on my Compound easy (but that has a 65% @letoff)..

Are these PROSHOP type aquisitions like Mathews products.

Any pointers are appreciated...good spring/summer project

Grizz call the biologist at joe pool lake at (817) 732-0761, and ask him to put you in touch with the guys who did the bowhunter education class at the TPWD station behind the dam. These guys bled traditional archery and had some very high end custom recurves made from texas osage, I think they may have even made some of them themselves, I know they knew bow lutheriers here in texas and said some of these custom handmake bows would blow any black widow or martin recurve away.

it doesn't cost a lot to get started. You can pick up a good used bow for $100.00 and remember that once you progress to the point that you what to move up in poundage, you should have no problem recooping your investment as used bows keep their value very well. Start with a low poundage bow. 40 to 45 is plenty to get you started. You will need arrows that are spined to fit your bow. Get help with the tuning. A lot of folks try Traditional equipment and give up quickly because they just can seem to get it, when the truth of the matter is they have arrows that are not the correct spine or their bows are poorly tuned. the best of us can't shoot a poorly tuned bow with any consistency. Next you will need a glove or tab. I would recommend a glove as your fingers will tend to get tender starting out with a soft tab.
