Bob,

On the photo thing...ya have to host the pictures on an offline public website (I use Photobucket.com) then use the BBCode brackets to encase the hyperlink to the photos. [img]your photo hyperlink[/img]. You can go to the bottom of this page for more instructions: http://www.lonestarbowhunter.com/php...?mode=bbcode#9

Membership question for our new EC when appointed. I was wondering if it would be easier to maintain membership for LSBA if we were to go to a set expiration date for all members, say on August 31 of each year, instead of it being from the date you joined. I am just throwing August 31 out cause that would give the new EC each year alittle time in office before having to deal with membership issues. LSBA could then prorate the renewal for the members that joined in the middle of the year. If this was done, you would not have to keep up with individual memberships expiring on diffenent dates. Would only have to mail out membership notices one time a year, everyone would know that there membership is fixing to expire. I know we still have the problem with the ones that sign up for several years at a time, but this could make it a little easier on keeping track. Just a idea, what are your thoughts.

Good idea. Instead of mailing out notices, have a page or half page in the magazine reminding members that dues are due on a certain date. That would be a cost savings and the notices that come out now would not be at the mercy of the post office. Either to be lost or torn up in transit.

Bob you've proposed a really interesting idea. When I first read it, my knee jerk reaction was NO. Then I thought, yeah this would save us a lot of work and postage and maybe people would get cued in to when to renew so I thought YES. Then I had a few additional thoughts and came away with MAYBE.

One possible concern would be a loss of revenue on non renewals. Typically many people sign up for a year and then don't renew. I hope to see that change somewhat, but realistically any organization will lose a certain percent of new members. If we pro-rate the first year then we might only get like $3 or $6 for one or two months and then no renewal. Might be a way around this by saying you had to pay for a year plus the pro-rate, or we might could even do it like Parks and Wildlife and say that your membership supports the organization and that no matter when you join, it will be full cost, and renewal will be on say Aug 31st and "THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING BOWHUNTING IN TEXAS. I don't think Parks and Wildlife cares what time of year I buy my salt water fishing license, or my super combo. The price is the same. Now that might make memberships kind of dry up just before the anniversary date, but might be workable. We might also sweeten it somewhat by sending out any back issues of the magazine with the membership signup.

There might be other problems with an annual renewal that we haven't thought of. According to the original by-laws, membership went from Jan 1st through December 31st. At some point and for some reason LSBA shifted off of the annual memberships which expired on a certain date to memberships renewed at any time. It would be interesting to know why this happened and if there were problems with this system.

I sure do like the idea of not having to mail out all those renewals.

Maybe if we didn't do it on an annual basis we could at least move to a quarterly renewal and code the renewal to "YOUR" quarter in the magazine. We could also use the full page ad/reminder like Ed was talking about tht way too. This wouldn't be as sweet as say an annual one, but we wouldn't have to worry about the pro-rate, just sign you up annually, or for a two year or three year based on the quarter.

Tomme, I would not prorate the new membership, just on the renewal of the existing membership. This is what was done on the TGWA membership when it went to this several years ago. That would give a little incentive for them to renew their membership, and then maybe be able to keep up with it better. I think most do not renew just because they did not realize their membership had expired. Like I had said earlier, it is just a thought, cause what we have now is not working.

I agree. Let's talk about this at the banquet. We have an EC meeting the next day.
