Hog Down at Uvalde
I just got back from 4 days at the lease. There are certainly some good points to this retirement business. Course if I had any smarts I wouldn't go out there in August to work on feeders and build pens.
It was a full moon week though so Brad Adams (who is also on the lease) came up one evening to hunt hogs with me. To hear Brad tell it he was covered up with hogs. After missing his Mulligan on a 200 lb sow he did nail another one which was, how to put it, a much SMALLER target. Actually it was a good medium sized pig, and I'm told that those younger ones are more tender.
Brad has a neat set up on his feeder, hog light and all and since he could only stay the one night he urged me to try his stand. He told me that there were hogs all over the place, but he was worried for deer season because he'd only seen one doe. Brad you have no problem. I don't know if you scared all the hogs away, but all I saw was DEER. Yep, at least seven different ones, maybe nine.
Sure was fun to get out and sit on a stand, heat and all. Now as for the feeders and the pen building, I don't think my barb wire fences will take any prizes, unless there's an "ugly fence" contest.
