Well, I get to ad to the post finally. I went out this evening hoping to get a pig for a friend, and hoping in return to get a few tamales. Made it to the stand just right after the feeder would have went off if it still had corn in it. I decieded to stick in out because I saw some new sign on the way in and was hoping the the feeder has not been out that long. I hand threw out my corn and climbed into the stand. Finally after about 45 minutes the coons showed up. Figured if they are still coming around, the corn must not have been out that long then. I picked out a real big male that I would shoot if the hogs were a no show. Then after about 20 minutes of watching coons and getting my blunt ready, they all stood up and then took off. Only one thing scares the coons away like that. My four sows and their 8 little ones come in and start eating. I start looking them over trying to figure out which one I want to kill, and deciede that the biggest needs to stay and I would try for one of the second largest. The whole time, I am really hoping that the big boar would show up and make my decision for me. After he was a no show, and the corn is almost gone, I take my shot, which looked perfect. The sow jumped, and turned and walked off and stopped at about five yards away. I thougt for sure she was down for the count. The other sows and little ones just kept eating. I got another arrow ready just in case the boar was going to show now. After about twenty minutes and after the hogs left on their own, I went over to claim my prize, no prize to be found. Enough blood that a blind man could follow, but still no pig. I tracked her through the thickest rose hedges that she could go through. I was down on my knees crawling hoping that she was dead around every bush. I finally made it up to her and she was still alive. I sat watching, because I did not take anything into the bush with me if I needed to kill her. All the other hogs were running around in there while I had been looking for her. She finally passed, and now was the job of trying to get her back out. I flagged my way to a canal that was behind my stand several hundered yards and then I needed to find my way back to the stand. I tried crawling my way back out the same way I came in, but then lost the trail when I reached a opening and thought I was home free. OH, did I mention it is dark also. By now my flashlight is going out so I call for back up. Hot4huntin is on her way. I let her know to wait at the gate until I find my way out, if I find my way out. I finally made it out to a road that is now closer to her stand than mind, but at least I know where I am. I get to the gate, and wait for H4H to show. We make in down the canal and then go in to retrieve the sow and drag her out. Everything went well with the flagging and finding her and then finding our way back out. After everything was done, I forgot to get any LDP. The sow was well over a 100 lbs and is going to be plenty of meat for tamales being that she was in great shape. Sorry for such a long read, but I guess I was excited about killing something finally. Next time there will be pics, but I will show you one of the girls while they are alive. Bob
