Tracy if I remember the discussion on this, the main thrust of the legislation was to stop people from hunting riverbeds in those counties and shooting rifles at anything that moved on private property along the riverbank. Having a lease along the Neuces river in Uvalde county I heartily endorse that part of the bill.

It was my understanding that the bill was never intended to stop bowfishing but rather to keep people from hunting or shooting onto the private property along the river. I don't want people doing this no matter what type of hunting equipment they are using. I agree that we might want to push for a clarification of the bowfishing aspects of this bill.

I also note that in his second post, Thumper takes one of his usual cheap shots at LSBA. For a person who is not a member but feels free to criticize the organization at any opportunity, I find that he has little credibility. Thumper IS a member of TBOT and was until recently an officer. If this is a burning issue for him I might ask Thumper why TBOT through it's legislative representative did not do anything. He might more appropriately complain to the organization to which he sends his dues. Apparently the bill was not seen as that big a deal by TBOT's leadership this last summer either.

Again my personal view is that it might be worthwhile to push for a clarification of the bowfishing aspects of this bill.

Tomme, it's not important WHO posted the message. The fact of the matter is the reg states that arrows are not allowed to be shot on navigable rivers and streams.

As for Thumper, well he's entitled to his opinion.

I second the fact that we maybe should have taken a closer look at the wording of this bill which it looks like they are. Second I would love to see the GW that had the cajones to enforce this bill say on walking eagle while he is bowfishing amistad! Third Tomme is entitled to his opinion also! I have met Chris(Thumper) and I wish he would be a team player instead of always driving a wedge!

You're right Brad. I agree wholeheartedly. Tomme IS entitled to his opinion as well. I don't know Thumper from Adam except to see some of the stuff he comes up with on the web, but I was trying to point out the reg. Next time I'll just paste from the TPW website. Because I SURE didn't intend to start a thread of "Thumper" and TBoT bashing. :(

Tracy the main part of my post was to explain the reasoning that went into the EC's original no action statement. This is also posted on the TBH site where Bob Wright has said that he would be in favor of us pushing to have the bill clarified to make sure that it doesn't outlaw bowfishing. Again I don't think that this was ever the intent of the bill, but rather was to stop people from shooting in such a way that their bullets (or arrows) went up on the bank and onto the ranches along the river. Since my deer lease in Uvalde county is along one of those rivers I heartily agree with that part of the bill. As I said on the TBH site, I think we need to try to get a bill through that clarifies that bowfishing is ok and also one that makes sure that it is illegal to use "buckshot". That way the duck hunters and dove hunters can still hunt.

Guess TPWD doesn't want to takw away our bowfishing rights!
