Recommendation for 3d shoot equipment.
 

OK. the boy and I are going to start shooting 3d tournaments this year. The first coming up at the end of this month. Since we are new to this I need some advice. i read the rules and understand most of the ofrmat and such.

What does the average shooter take in the way of gear (pack list)?
How many arrows should we bring?
How long does a shoot normally last?
Do most places allow shooters to bring in their own snacks/drinks?

Am I over thinking this?

I just take my hunting rig as is and maybe three arrows!

Usually shoots last about three or four hours depending on the turn-out and format. L.S.B.A. shoots start at 9:00 and usually ask for all score cards by 1:00.

Yes most let you bring your own snacks!!

No I don't think you are over thinking this! I feel more people would shoot 3-d if they weren't so intimidated.(as I was) Go and you will have a great time!!

I agree - I think the word competition drives more people away. For newbies, it isn't competition - it is a chance to learn from others. Learn what? Shooting skills, hunting skills, hunting locations, etc.

Oh, yeah, I recommend a lot more than 3 arrows. ;) Bring as many as you can afford to lose - not that you will lose any, but just letting you know.

Yes bring lots of arrows! At least, I find I need a full quiver. Binos, water bottle holder, pencil and mosquito/chigger repellent. Last season I just clipped my thermacell to my quiver and not more skeeters. As for chiggers, they still found there way to my socks.:err:

welcome and biggen and the rest have you lined out.just remember dont sweat the small stuff come to have fun .pack what you might need to go out into the backyard and practice without having to go back inside to get something.it is that simple everyone has something or other that noone else carries .remember no range finders.as this will get you disquallified.the rest is up for interpretation L.O.L. good luck

recar, what most of the others have said, but I wanted to ad something from what I learned the first time out. If at all possible, go with someone you know that shoots already for the first time. Makes things a little easier. The first time I went, and I think Dena's second time. I had no idea what class I was to be in, did not know which stake I was suppose to shot from (there were a few stakes of the same colors). I was totally confused. This was not a LSBA shoot I might ad. The last several times have been a blast, and I have even placed in a couple, of course not first yet. You normally will shoot one arrow for the entire course unless you loose or damage it, then you need another. You don't need a dozen unless you are really a bad shot like I was/am. Most people use the hip quiver, you can get one as fancy as you want or plain as you want. Good pair of binos to see the 12 ring. Never could figure out why binos, just shoot where you think the heart is. That doesn't help you get a good score because the 12 ring is not always were the heart is. During the summer you will need a towel to wipe the sweat off (See LSBA Store for 3-D Towels). Some people have a mini clipboard to hold their score cards, nice but not really needed. And yes, it is really addicting. Bob
