Ham For the Hungry
OK LSBA sponsored this as a project last year. It hasn't officially been voted on for this year, but I think we could go ahead and do it unofficially. Basically what you do is go shoot a pig (or 5, 10 or 50) and donate it to feed the hungry. There are a lot of spots through Huntersharvest in the Houston area. One near Buda (you know as in near Cabela's) and some spots in San Antonio and Dallas. Some of these will even take pigs that are field dressed, but not skinned. For those of us who don't like to be skinned by the IRS this also qualifies as charity work and the value of the donated animal is deductible. (check with your tax professional on this). It's a worthwhile project in and of itself and is traditional in bowhunting where the good hunters from the tribe fed the orphaned, poor and weak. They also would feed people like most of my friends who without help would be vegetarians (LOL).
So how about it, will you step up to the plate and Pledge a Pig for the Ham for the Hungry project? I've pasted some more info below. Thanks, Tomme The following was sent to me from HuntersHarvest. "Ministries see increase in donations In 2007, organizations feeding the hungry across Texas received over 19,000 pounds of fish and game from those participating in Hunters' Harvest. Thank you to all who donated throughout the year and to the following organizations that promoted giving to Hunters' Harvest through their events: Texas Dog Hunters Association Lone Star Bow Hunters Association Houston Gulf Coast Safari Club Interntional - First for Hunters Midway Food Markets Bass Pro Shops Greater Houston Christian Outdoor Fellowship Faithbridge Church For list of organizations near you that are happy to accept your fish and game donations, go to www.huntersharvest.org and click "Where to Donate". Midway Meat Market Processes Game donated to Hunters' Harvest for FREE Midway Meat Market in Katy makes it easy to donate to Hunters' Harvest. Just drop off your field dressed deer or hog at Midway, tell them it is for Hunters' Harvest* and you're done! Midway grinds the meat and calls Hunters' Harvest to arrange pick up by one of the ministries we serve. Since partnering with Midway we have seen an increase in donations from individual hunters and those who have taken management deer or hogs from their property. Thanks to Herman and Trish at Midway for working with Hunters' Harvest to feed hungry people in the Houston area. Midway Meat Market, 5901 Highway Blvd., Katy 281.391.3101 www.midwaydeerprocessing.com *There are other hunting organizations with similar names doing some great work to feed the hungry. However, in order to take advantage of this offer you must specify that it is for Hunters' Harvest. To receive a tax receipt for your donation, contact cathy@huntersharvest.org or 281.320.8259. " |

That is the list that Cathy from Hunters' Harvest supplied us from last year. Maybe new folks working there. I'll shoot Kathy an email and let her know we are doing this again. She may have some new leads for us.

Buff, Cathy said they are still taking donations. However, the person that answers may not always be aware of it, so ask for your call be redirected.
