My New AW Bow

Well I picked up an Arvin Weaver Osage Selfbow this past weekend and couldn't put it down. I was invited to give arrow building demos at a Celtic Festival near Austin and Arvin was there giving bow building demos. So we hooked up and I shot almost every bow he had there, but this one really stood out. She is 69" long with a #45 @ 28" draw and one of the smoothest bows I've ever shot. Doesn't have a shielf, but that didn't seem to matter as I shot it really well and had to bring her home with me.

Last night I shot it from my tripod and though the groups aren't as good as with my White Wolf custom, a little more practice should take care of that. Now to get some arrows setup with trade points on them so if I'm feeling froggy next week she is ready to hunt. Here is the video I shot of me shooting out of the tripod. I wasn't at my best and you can see my release wasn't what it should have been, but the arrows (for the most part) were still hitting home.

Good video, Derek! Good luck opening weekend (and all season) with the new bow. It's still hot here, too.

Not yet, Derek. Here's the deal. They are having a severe drought in south central New Mexico, too. I kept in touch with my B-I-L all off season and knew the rains weren't coming and the deer were poor. Traditionally the "monsoon" starts there in late June or July and it greens up good by September.....the deer are tolerable in Sept. and in good shape by Nov. Not this year. It didn't rain at all there until August and the deer remained in bad shape. I knew that but went out there anyway to have a look-see, put out my cameras, and mainly cool off!!
The day before the season opened I made the decision not to hunt until the November season. At that point, I hadn't seen Big Boy. I had my cameras out and on Sept. 2 he showed up during shooting hours and had I been hunting, I would have got him. He showed up several other times, once at 0830 (see pic) which is unusual for him. He was in good enough shape to shoot, had I made that decision. I'll get him in November. Sorry this ran on.....but a lot of deer stories do......

Ray good luck getting him this year. Not sure how my season going to pan out. I only have one feeder going right now as I wasn't able to get up to the place much this year. I will be up this weekend to hunt and try and get the other feeders going. Will let you know how things pan out and if they are looking good you will have to come over for another weekend.

Keep me posted, Derek! Sure was fun last year. I'm free all of Oct. except the 15th....kids are treating me to the Longhorn/OSU game.
