Limbs for Cape Buffalo
 

I just got off the phone with Blackwidow. They are going to build me a set of 85# limbs for my PSAIII. I need to build some arrows that combined with 180 grain heads will weigh in over 900 grains. Anybody built any super heavy arrows?

Only out of laminated birch shafts. Muzzy makes that 220 grain phantom SS. Get you some grizzly sticks and load'm with aquarium tubing or the like. You can also get the steel inserts from 3 Rivers or Kustom King.

I have a dozen grizzly stick safari grade shafts with a brass insert. they weigh 778 grains but they do not fly well for me . Maybe they will fly better with the heavier limbs.

That aquarium tubing may bring it to weight in the CX's too. One thing about shooting off center, it takes shooting pretty much to see what you'll need.

Those Phantom SS are some pretty tough heads. 220 with bleeder blade, 200 without. On my 64# bow, I'm shooting a 600 gn arrow with the SS's and they fly near perfect. Hopefully the next deer I see, I'll see it first and it'll be too late for it to do anything about it. I'm using carbon wolverines full length with them to get the weight and flight I need. They're 600+/- without added weight other than the heads.

85# that makes me hurt all over just thinking about it.:ouch:

The aquarium tubing always did the trick for me. I know Chunky had problems when he tried it but I always fit the first one insert to nock, weigh it and measure the others by weight only. They tubing fits pretty tight inside CX Heritage shafts so there's very little noise/rattle. You do have tune each one and then glue the nocks in or they'll pop off when you're target shooting.

The 8th Dwarf (aka, Too Short; aka, Paul Brunner) had some heavy wooden shafts made out of Dymondwood for his buffalo hunts a couple of years ago. Same laminated stuff they use on bow risers.

Worked well for him on both Water Buff & Cape Buff that year.

I'd say look into some laminated birch; 23/64. Bet that'd hit weight for you. Throw some 190 ribteks on and they'd be unstoppable. I'm pretty sure this setup would hit 900 to 1,000 easy. ;)
