smAXIS

Got lucky this week. And no, not in the way you're thinking. I was invited out near Camp Woods with a one of the first guys I ever bowhunted with to hunt Axis. Just like my favorite beer, this was a free hunt.

First morning I had three whitetails and 7 Axis come out. There was a small buck in the group, but I opted for the biggest doe. Guess I'll see how Axis backstrap and sausage taste. This is my first Axis.

Finding, field dressing and quartering it out in the heat was about all the work I wanted, but if I could have gotten a shot at the big boy with the 30" rack that I saw later on that day, I might be writing about a double SmAxis. No luck on that, but a fun hunt and I got to renew an old friendship and see some new country.

I sent the pictures to Brad and Ronny, so one of them should post it here.

Good luck in the woods, and I'll see you at the banquet.

Congrats Tomme!! I bet it was a little warmer than the hunt at Elem Creek!

LOL. Yes it was warmer. One of the reasons I didn't hunt that hard for a second one. I am a cold weather hunter.

Now Elm Creek was way beyond cold.

THAT is an understatement! (But I enjoyed every minute of it)

Way to go on the axis doe! That should be some fine eating.
