Black bear outfitters???

I want to do a bear hunt next year...may even try to do New Mexico or Arkansas this Fall and am fishing for outfitter recommendations. Decision to be heavily influenced by budget and travel time...

Please include contact info, costs, permits, fees, etc...and pics from your last hunt with them too! :P

Thanks in advance.

Tinman

This is going to sound dumb, but what are you looking for in your bear hunt? Do you want a 'DIY' deal or fully outfitted? Do you plan on driving or flying? Do you want BIG bears as in one that'll bust into the books or your average bear?

I'd recommend you look for a hunt in New Brunswick - most of your good to excellent guides can set you up for a week of bear hunting (with fishing thrown in) for between $1200 and $1700. Pierre Roy, Bathurst region, is a very strong guide who ends up putting one or two Booner's on the deck each year and several P/Y bears.

If your plan is to hunt a few years from now, vice next Spring, I'd recommend getting with a young man named Charlie Lentiegne. Charlie will be opening up his own outfit and hunting/fishing camp West of Bathurst in 09. We're on his books for Memorial Day week -- which is usually when the boars start chasing sows. I can send you Charlie's info if you like. He'll be well worth the wait.

If you're looking for Color Phase critters look toward Saskatchewan. Price is a bit higher though. We're booked with K&L Outfitters for June 07...

Cooper Camp in Quebec, offers a guaranteed hunt where if you don't take a bear, you get a 50% refund, or come back the next year for the cost of your license. They feed you really well. The bunkhouse is an old logging camp, a little run down, but not dirty. (Just needs paint). You can fish for just a few $$$ more. The only thing I would recommend is a high quality bug suit. The skeeters & the black flies will carry you off other-wise, but I think all Canadian hunts are like that. Lastly, if you take the largest bear of the week, you win a free Caribou hunt. (Cooper Camp is part of Safari Nordik).

2009 Spring Black Bear Opportunity

Charlie Lantiegne (see my previous post in this thread) is opening his camp for 2 weeks beginning May 09. His camp is located in Saint Quentin, New Brunswick, in very close proximity to the Nepisiguit and Upsalquich Rivers (can you say Salmon??). Charlie's area has not been hunted in 5 plus years (baits have been run weekly each Spring and Fall since 2005. He has 4 spaces available for the week of June 1 (Peak of Black Bear Rut). Charlie is offering a $500 refund if you do not see a 'harvestable' bear during your hunt. Millie and I will be in camp with 4 other hunters the week of May 23.

Cost: $1500 - includes license, first class lodging, 3 meals daily and full guide services and trophy care. You'll have to purchase a fishing license if you'd like to fish. Send PM or email to milnrick@flash.net if more information is needed.

Hey folks. Millie and I have hunted with Jimmy 'Papa Bear' Dort and can tell you without doubt or hesitation that you'll be treated like Kings and Queens and will definitely see bears. Millie's big VEE boar was taken off one of Jimmy's baits. Both of bears we took in 2007 came off of Jimmy's baits and stands. You will not be disappointed.
