Lone Star Bowhunters Association - Long Dry Spell Finally Over

It seems like it has been forever since I killed anything. This year I had a couple real nice hogs coming to my local feeder. I had one that was a regular coming ever day, or staying all day long. The other I only had on camera a couple times. I hunted several days without any luck, but figured I would give it another go yesterday. I had a good north wind blowing so I was hoping I could sneek in and get set up. The when the feeder went off, it hadn't even stopped spinning when the first boar jumped out of the bushes. Big hog, but no teeth. Then the next one came in right after which was another big boar, but did not have time to look for teeth because the big barr that I was after was right behind him. The barr kept chasing the second boar around, and that was when I thought my luck was going to bad. The boar was coming in right beside me and if he went another ten yard he would wind me. By then, the barr was under the feeder, but really nervous. He kept looking in where I was sitting. I knew I was going to have to make it all happen soon, or take the chance of them busting out of there. I drew my bow, and of course the arrow came off the rest, but I managed to get it back on. I don't even remember pulling the trigger on the release, and the arrow was smacking into the barr. The barr, at the same time turned toward me, which made the shot angle back towards his hind quarter. I waited a little while, then got down and changed batteries and card out on my camera. I went to the spot where the hog went into the brush and found some blood right away. Then it became harder to find. I had to get down on my hands and knees, and most of the time on my belly and crawl through the hog tunnel. I worked it until dark, then figured I needed to go get Abry, or Jack Russel. Dena called while I was coming out and said she was just getting home and would come out and help. They arrived and we got back on the trail finding more blood then what I was finding. We crawled through this mess for what seemed a hundred yards, but probably more. We finally broke through and hit the trees, but still no hog. We searched for several hours until we just could not find anymore blood. We figured with the cool night, we could come back and look first thing in the morning. Dena, me and a buddy of mine (Brian) came out and Brian brought his dog, and we started at the last blood. His dog worked all around would put his nose on the ground and then take off again. One time he gave a small bush and good going over and I walked over to it and there was blood on it. Brian took off with the dog, while I tried to find other blood. Then Brian hollered the good news that he found the hog, but it was still alive. The hog could not get up, but would still circle around on the ground at him. We finally got him down for good, then the real work began. We hooked a rope on the barr and started to try and drag him out. We did this for a little while, then I figured we get it cutted which would loose a little weight off it. We pulled on it more, then Dena finally worked to us on the four wheeler, and we got him loaded and out of the brush. He field dressed 270 lbs, and had at least six inches of fat on the inside and three inches on his outside. The arrow was at the skin on the hind quarter, almost coming out.

Here are a few pics. The first one is the boar that I only seen a couple times, the second is the barr, then the third is from the game cam when I shot him. The arrow looks high, but the hog is nearly laying on his side in the pic. The arrow was place good, just the angle was wrong. The rest are LDP. Sorry for the long read, but it has been a long time.
