Points not sticking
I was so proud of my creation until I shot them. Well they shot well, but when I pulled them out of the target some of the points stayed in the target.
Probably my fault, but anyway. I made up some cedar arrows and glued the field tips on with Ferr-L-Tite. I didn't clean them with alcohol or acetone first. Could there be any other reason why they pull off? The target is a new 3D target my sweet wife bought at the banquet and it's HARD to pull those arrows out. I could use some suggestions on that too, if anyone knows. Is there some lubricant to put on them. They came pre-finished from 3rivers. |
Got to clean the film of oil from inside the points before ya glue them on.
Sometimes the heat will burn the oil away enough to get a good bond, but a lot of the time it won't, so it's best to clean it away with acetone or similar. Get a bar of cheap soap, and scrub it on to the point, and about 2" up the shaft before shooting into the 3D. They'll pull a lot easier that way. Rick |
liquid soap works well too, just dip the arrow in the soap and shoot it, after some shots, the get a lot easier to remove.
