what broad heads to use
 

My wife and son both shoot 4o lb. bows what is the best broad head to use for the best penetration on hogs or deer.

I like 85 grn. Thunderheads with my set up. However, I will be switching to a 2 blade coi BH for better penetration on larger boars. I'm looking at the German Kinetics. Hopefully, Tinman can give you better insight on the GK blades.

What arrow are they shooting with their setups and what is the arrow weight?

I'd recommend the Magnus Stinger. Match the weight of the broadhead to the shaft. Probably 85 or 100 depending on the shaft you use. I'd say go with a 35/55 goldtip carbon or something like that. 2013 if they're shooting aluminum.

Thanks for the advice I shoot 70 lbs. and I use thunderhead 100 grain . broad head.And the magnus stingers were the choice for my wife and son,I just wanted to get some feed back on them.

Whatever broadheads you decide on, PLEASE keep them SHARP. We see all kinds and types at the ranch and some hunters have broadheads that they shoot into the practice targets all day and then go hunting with them. They are so dull, you could ride them all the way home and not get cut. With lower poundage, cut on contact broadheads would probably be your best choice, but just remember....KEEP EM SHARP

When I was shooting trad I also shot the stingers. Great blood trails on everything I shot with them (which was actually only a few deer and a couple of hogs).

I now shoot the G5 Montec heads and I think they would do a fine job as well.

I have seen the stingers work very well on hogs. My personal favorites right now are slick tricks and G5 strikers. My wife swears by the slick tricks

If penetration is the concern you should go with a sharp two blade. I also like the stingers, but have also had good luck with Zwicky and the normal Magnus heads.

Yep, Zwickey makes some good heads. ;) The best judos on the market too.

The key is "sharp". You want that blade cutting stuff from the moment it enters to the moment it exits. Any severed vessel is a releaser of blood. The more blood loss, the quicker, the sooner you'll be loading the truck with your prize. ;) A blade that's not sharp enough will push these vessels out of the way as it passes without compromising them.

I like Zwickey and Ribtek for this. I can get both razor sharp and they mount very easily on my cedar shafts. An adapter and they're ready for screw in shafting as well.

I bummed a stinger off a guy and tried it. The head has a LOT of potential.

I SHOT A 100 SOW WITH A 45# BEAR TIPPED WITH A 125 MAGNUS IT DID THE JOB.

I like the wacem heads, they fly so true :D

I have changed over to the two-blade Rage this summer. It has worked great on hogs. Still haven't decided to use it on deer.......but don't know why.:)
