Antelope Bound
Leaving early tomorrow to fly to Colorado. This is the trip that was rained out last year. In case you don't recall Jay Fulton and I got clear up to Eichler's place at Trinidad. CO only to find that it had been raining all week; and we were out of luck. Well not completely, as Fred suggested that we simply go home and come back this year. So here we go. Can't say enough good things about Fred. He lost a couple of thousand by doing what he did, but it was more important to him that we have a good hunt. You can't find an outfitter that does more for you than that.
Anyway, I've had a whole year to think about this, and let the excitement build, and I've been having trouble sleeping this whole last week. I guess I'm kind of like the kid the night before you go to Grandma's. One additional good deal is that Jack Jetton is going to be there while we are. More cameraderie. I would normally assume that Jack made his reservations specifically because he knew I would be there and so could benefit from my wisdom, but he swears it was just dumb luck. Sure Jack, sure. I understand. So I'm leaving Rockport Texas and our 101 heat at about 4 AM to fly to Colorado and sit in a hot tent blind on the prairie. Yes! Yes! It doesn't get any better than that. See you tomorrow Jack. |
Good Luck Tomme !!!

Thanks everyone. Been sorting through everything since I got back. I've also just about finished a story for the magazine so I won't go into too much detail here (like the dent the antelope put in Fred's brand new truck). Since I shot it on the last night at 7:20 PM I thought about titling the story "Last Chance Buck", but I think I'll go with the title, "It's Not Over Till the Fat Feller Sings" (me of course being the fat feller).
Wonderful hunt. Michele and Fred Eichler are first class and run a first class operation. As I told them the hunt would have been great even without the antelope. The antelope was just icing on the cake, but I have to admit it was pretty good icing. |

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that read between the lines on his story....... |
This should make a great story.
|
Dent is in the left rear panel, but those GMCs do back rather quickly.
|
Oh boy, I can not wait to read the story.
|
That ain't the half of it but I won't spill all the beans! Just sum it up that Tomme is one
Lucky B@#T%$D!! :hammerhead: |

OK, Cameron has the story.

Well I have to bow to the master. Congrats on a great trophy Tomme. I had my opportunity at 25 yds. on the first day and came away with hair and meat but no blood. Mike Palmer and Michele both got goats just after Tomme got his too.
I agree with Tomme. The Eichler's have a first class operation and I have already booked my revenge, I mean return trip! But for every dark cloud there is a silver lining. I left Fulldraw with a brand spanking new custom built Palmer Fred Eichler Traditional Slam recurve bow and I love it!!! Shoots so sweet I used it for the next 3 days to elk hunt. Didn't kill anything but time there either but it was just what I needed. |
Sorry to hear that Jack, guess that makes it a lot easier to go back when you still need to get a goat. Cannot wait to see the new bow. Bob
|
What do you mean easier if you didn't get one? I'm going back even after getting one, but then I love the pain of sizzling in a tent blind on the prairie for 15 hours. Just color me masochist. Bring it on. I had really hoped that Jack would get a second opportunity, but you know how that goes. I wish we could get an all LSBA group up there. It's a cheap hunt for the quality of game, but not in terms of the $$$$
|
Jack,
I am glad to know that you got some much needed R&R. I can not wait to see your new bow. I am sure you will get your revenge next year. Tomme, You mean you did not work a group hunt package for LSBA members?:jump: |
It's hard to get a package deal at a place that's booked full for two years in advance, and who doesn't let you return unless they like you. Actually I'm surprised that Jack is getting to go back. Guess my influence on his behalf must have paid off. :>)
|
Yeah they're gonna let me come back the first week of antelope season in 2012!! Maybe by then I'll be ready to do it with the Palmer!
|
I still say bring that Palmer on the Spring Grunts and Gobbles hunt and see if you can break the concrete pig curse.
