LSBA Colorado Live Hunt

Well, half way through our first day. Last night the four of us with deer tags tried our luck at mule deer. I saw two nice bucks but naturally they would not get in bow range.

The elk were not coorperating this morning. Some heard the bulls calling but could not get close. Mark and me tromped all over the place. When we purchased our license, Mark had an idea to get grouse license too. Well that paid off this morning when I shot my first grouse.

The guides took Marty to the top of the mountain. Marty must have decided to become the wise man on the mountain because he has yet to come down.

We are having a great time!

I just got in. We had a pretty tuff hunt . My guide was as good as any I have ever hunted with. Unfortunately the outfitter was not. Their were lots of Elk around the ranch we were hunting but we never saw any on the ranch we hunted.
After we arrived we discover that our hunt planned for no More than 6 hunters had turned into a hunt with 11 hunters. The outfitter had never scouted the properly and the guides had no ideal where to start. We were sent to a couple of other places that were supposed to be covered up with deer but we saw none. Later we found out he had never actually scouted them either. Brian managed to kill a cow with a great 80 yard shot and seemed to have more Elk on the ranch he and Baily were hunting. The good news was we still managed to have a great time as Roger is a blast to be around and everybody knows about my man crush on Mark.
.I will post some pictures later

BUFF 09-29-2008 08:46 PM

I did not take nearly enough pictures but here is what I have. I'm sure Mark, Brian and Roger have more

That is a great slide show Marty.

I loved the pics of you and Stoney.

That was a LOT of Black Widows on that hunt... did not think they like the cold weather that much!! :) :)

Sorry to hear about the outfitter. I am glad y'all had a good time though. Congrats to Brian.

Ronny 09-29-2008 10:38 PM

Sorry to hear the outfitter sucked. Glad ya'll had a good time.

biggen 09-30-2008 09:05 AM

Looks like some memories were made some good some bad! Sorry about the outfitter!

I am exhausted but I had an absolute blast the whole week we were in Colorado. I hate Buffs and the rest of the guys hunt didnt go as well as mine did. I did not have any problem with our outfitter and I am already planning my next hunt with him next year. I will write up the story on my hunt this afternoon after I rest a little. All I can say right now is that it was an honor to share a hunting camp with Marty, Stoney, Mark, and Roger from here and the guys from Colorado Kevin, Rudy, Ryan, Cody and Jay and the Canadian hunter in camp Ab and yes Ab is his name. I am looking forward to sharing another hunting camp with them soon.

Thanks for the update and sorry about the poor outfitter.

Bweger 09-30-2008 10:30 AM

In my opinion the oufitter busted his butt to make this hunt a great hunt it just didnot work out do to things that he could not control like the weather and the animals. If I would have had a Muledeer tag I would have tagged out on deer the first or second day. I had to work my butt off to get the Elk I was able to take and I enjoyed every second it took and every mile I had to walk.

I can only assume you have not been on very many outfitted hunts.
The land we hunted had never been scouted. We pretty much hunted 4 hunters for 1 guide all week. When our guide told Kevin there were no Elk on the place we were hunting he just kinda shrugged it off. We spent 4 days setting by a fence listening to Elk on the next ranch over. 11 hunters in a camp that we were promised would not have over 6. When I asked him about it he told me they were repeat customers that came every year so he couldn't turn them down. I asked them about it and they said they had never been there before. Hauling my son to a bar and refusing to bring him back to camp was pretty much the deal breaker for me.

BUFF 09-30-2008 12:04 PM

Can you send me a picture of your Elk for my web site?

Brian forgot to mention taking us to school on the long distance shooting.

Bweger 09-30-2008 12:06 PM

You bet send me your email and I will send it right to you.

NDNRoger 10-07-2008 09:57 AM

So much for our first Live Hunt. It took me 45 minutes to get online and make that first post. After that I could not get a signal to stay up. Marty had a carrier that could get him online without issues. So much for AT&T and more bars in more places.

I hunted hard for elk 2 days and deer for 3. Completely blew a shot on a nice muley and had a doe duck the arrow at 50 yards. I had a blast though! It was great fun hanging out with Marty, Mark, Stoney, Brian and Bale. Met a great guy from Canada on his very first vacation and plane trip. My grouse was delicous! I love being in he mountains!

No one has asked for my opinion on the outfitter...so I will keep it to myself.

LostHawg 10-07-2008 10:53 AM

You know I almost talked myself into going with y'all... Almost. Guess its a good thing we went broke going to Alabama.

But, you go to CO on an elk hunt and a deer and chicken hunt breaks out?

Glad I didn't make it...

NDNRoger 10-07-2008 11:07 AM

Some of us had our bases covered on almost every angle.

LostHawg 10-07-2008 12:14 PM

Glad you were able to get on some deer. Those big old grouse and pheasants were a road hazard when I lived in SD.
