Banquet Raffle
Looking for help from our members. Let's try to make this an outstanding fundraiser for LSBA. Everyone ask their local businesses, ranches etc for donations of items for the raffle, auction, etc. Get with Dan Dockery at 830-237-8894.

I had a problem with that # it's been changed to 210-334-7671. Any help I can get from the membership would be a great help.
Thanks, Dan |
Will you be able to buy raffle tickets by mail/Paypal etc.?
|
Steve,
The variety of raffle tickets are sold a the banquet. Ron |
Just following up on raffle items. Haven't received much response on raffle items for the banquet. Lots of people have responded about bidding on internet, sealed bids, etc., but not much response on what our members have gotten committed for raffle items. The banquet is less than a month away. Let Dan or I know, so we can start compiling a list to post and for the Bownanza. Thanks for everyone's help and support.

Gary, I sent Dan an email through the website last week about a raffle item I have gotten. It is a custom made caping knife from a guy in Montana. In the email I asked Dan if he wanted me to send it to him or just bring it to the banquet. If you want me to send it to you that is no problem. Send me the addy you would like it sent to.

I am donating one of my custom knives for the auction/raffle. Almost have the sheath finished and it should be ready to mail sometime next week.
I would like to see it go in the auction but I guess the powers to be will determine that. So to who or where do I send it when finished? :?: One I donated last week to our local Faith in Action group's fund raiser went for $300.00. That was my base knife. The one I am donating is my middle level model. I would like to see what the LSBA people will do with this one. I will start the bidding at $125.00. 8) |
That is GREAT, If you want to mail it, You can mail it to
L.S.B.A. PO Box 4606 Victoria, Tx. 77903. GREAT JOB |
Gary and Dan, Pete Denney is once again donating a hog hunt for SIX PEOPLE at Brushy Hill. Hunt is supposed to be taken during the summer, or at least after the end of turkey season. This should be an auction item.
Also, we have a contact at Gander Mountain that will be donating a bunch of stuff. Don't want to mention his name without permission and I don't have the list of stuff yet, but should know soon. Cull we should have raffle tickets and hopefully a list of raffle items at Bownanza. Alternatively you can just give your FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR RAFFLE TICKETS TO ME ...or of course some lesser amount, and I'll drop them in at the banquet for you. You don't even have to put your name on the tickets, just leave em blank and I'll see that you get taken care of. Trust me. |
So far we have a bowfishing trip for two (possibly two seperate trips for 2) from Cougar Run Ranch.
A woodcut black and white print (approx size 7" X 9") of african animals at a waterhole circa 1837 (yep...that's 1837 and it's authenticated) Original Chesterfield Cigarette color poster of "Lady with longbow and back quiver in Robin Hood Costume:" circa 1951 22" X 15" map of Texas circa 1936 Waiting to hear back from Academy on gift certificates. Kim is going to compile a list of some nick nack items we got from archery shops and will be hitting the big ticket hunt/archery item solicitations this weekend and will post em up. |
Great job guys. Keep up the good work and we will have a great auction/raffle

Just a thought...
What if everyone brought a few 'used' items and we had a seperate dollar raffle can for this. We could pull the number of raffle tickets as there were items and the first drawn would get first pic of all items etc... I have one of the jumbo dog travel kennels I don't want, a few arrow rests that are new and dont use, releases, assorted arrows all over the dang place (could probably make a few 1/2 dozen)...If everyone brought a few items, we could conceivably have more then one raffle for all the stuff. Or even do a trading blanket type scenario if the majority doesn't think there would be an interest to buy tickets for this type of thing. A trading blanket could be fun if not. |
Mike
That sounds interesting. We all have some items we no longer need or use, either used or new. Just getting the word out may be the hard thing but we have almost two weeks so I guess that is enough time. I know I have enough stuff I never used or used little and do not need any more. Trade blanket or raffle sounds good to me. Just the logistics sounds iffy to me since it hadn't been done before. I am for it if you can get it to work. I would be looking for traditional type items for myself if we do a trade blanket. Which reminds me. Anyone want to look at my old camoed Red Wing Hunter and try to determine if it should be shot or not? If so, I will bring it for review. |
Ed,
Bring the bow, there will be enough of us to look at it and make a determination. Main thing to look for is horizontal stress cracks....some older bows will have minor vertical ones and can be shot with no problems as long as the limbs aren't delaminating. The limb tips is a big area to check closely as well. Also look for any cracks in the riser or areas where the bow may have been reglued or pinned with wooden pegs or nails to re-join an area....I would not shoot it if so without deffinitely getting it looked at. Overall....that is a great bow and they last forever when cared for...I see folks still shooting/hunting with them today. |

This is my first purchased bow from the late '60s. It hasn't been abused except for the camo paint job I put on it. The camo paint job hides the original finish in all areas. It has not been shot since the mid '70s. My concern is in regards to glue line separation in a couple areas on the riser and wood/glasss lamination. The places are barely visible and are not longer then half inch or so. The separation in the paint gives the spots away. I do not want to pull the bow back to check it out and see if it will hold or not. I built a recurve bow back in the mid '60s. It came apart on me several years later in my parent's living room as I held it at full draw. I do not need that experience again. Anyone have any recommendations on what to use to remove the camo paint I put on it? Since that was over 30 years ago, I have not idea what kind of paint I used. I would like to get the paint off however without removing the original finish if possible Any suggestions anyone? |
I just pulled the bow down to check it. The separation lines are longer now then I thought they would be. On top limb of the bow on opposite sides of the riser.
I think if I tried to remove the camo paint, I might fill the separation lines and they would no longer be visible. So I will hold off on that project until the experts review the bow. I also put home made sights on the bow. Remember, this is from the late '60s and most of you weren't even born at that time. The sights did work even though home made. I have always made most of my toys if I could. Still do today. ejk |
Hey Ed lets get Tomme to pull it back. I resemble that 60's remark!
|
:) I think you got a great idea Bowjunkie. I generally bring as much new stuff as I have accumulated that I don't use for raffle items, but haven't brought any almost new stuff. Sounds dooable to me

I think Biggen has a good idea on testing out the bow. We can sell tickets for viewing the exhibition and make a few more dollars that way. If Tomme doesn't blow it, then we sell tickets for others to test it.
Whoever makes it go bang, gets the remaining parts and half the monies from the testing pot. No dry fires. Just pull back to full draw. I would pay to watch that. |
Ed, man you are really on to something maybe we could get a pot going like when Tomme pulls it back for the 7th time it will blow. I would put my money on the 15th pull!!
|
Has anyone noticed beside me that Tomme has been absent from this thread? :?:
It is time to come out of hiding Tomme. We have a LSBA fund raising venture for you that will not cost you any funds this time. Maybe. |
So what will you call it? The Presidential Assasination Pot? Gee guys I haven't even taken office yet and you're already trying to bump me off.
I think Fitzgerald's "almost new" rafle pot is a great idea. Might need to think this through if you get a bunch of items. For example, if there are 20 items to choose from maybe split them up into 3-4 cans so the top five tickets get to pick in each. Maybe after five, put what's left into one big pot and have either a one bid auction (i.e., you write your name and bid on a card, turnb it in and high bidder gets it all) or put the leftovers in the auction. We are going to need some raffle items for the spring fellowship hunt too, so if you have several items, maybe split the items so as we can tap both potential groups. |
