For a 62" recurve you need a 58" string. and with that then you can twist positive or negative to suit your bow. The higher the brace height, the stiffer the arrows. so right handed will shoot to the left and left handed to the right. The lower the brace height the weaker the arrows.
You just need to play with it a while.
Besides, I myself have a bear recurve that is only 58" long and I have a 32" draw. It is from the mid to early seventies and I also use it for bowfishing. So as to answer part 2 of your question roger, go ahead and shoot that bow. I have been taught that every bow has a spirit and everyday you don't shoot it, it loses a piece of its spirit.
