Welcome to the website for the 16th Annual Migration Celebration held each spring in southern Brazoria County, Texas. Migration Celebration is held by the Friends of the Brazoria Wildlife Refuges in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Texas Mid-Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex.

More details about the 2010 Migration Celebration will be posted on this website when available. We have not yet updated the schedule for 2010 but we are working on the details of the program. We are planning a full schedule of activities including speakers, presentations, exhibitors, and other activities.

Southern Brazoria County includes the cities of Angleton, Brazoria, Clute, Freeport, Jones Creek, Lake Jackson, Oyster Creek, Richwood, Sweeny, Surfside Beach and Quintana. The Freeport Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is consistently in the top five and the San Bernard CBC (centered on the refuge) in the top ten best counts every year.

Southern Brazoria County contains a part of the Columbia Bottomlands forest and is a major neotropical migrant stopping point in spring and fall. The Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary is very near the Gulf of Mexico and, with the right conditions, is an excellent spot for viewing neotropical migrants. Habitats such as the forest, fresh and salt water marshes, coastal prairie, beach, bays and Gulf all contribute to the diversity of birds found in the area.

Migration Celebration activities are centered on the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge but formally start with a fundraising dinner and featured speaker on Friday evening, April 16, at RiverPlace in the Freeport Municipal Park.

With the exception of the Friday evening April 16 fundraising activities, all other Migration Celebration events, tours, presentations, and other activities are free to the public. This is made possible by the generous donations of time and money by our sponsors, partner organizations and volunteers.

We hope to see you there in April 2010!
