hi buff.
i was reading about your trip to africa and the great experience you had hunting there. it has always been a dream of mine to hunt there. i am going under the knife for my third shoulder surgery soon and i want to book a trip to africa to give me motivation to work really hard rehabbing the arm and getting it back to bow shape. would you mind telling me more about the trip you took and how the hunting methods they use there? also, what can i expect as far as total costs incluing flights, hunt fees, tips, and taxi work? any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
dustin ortmann

Africa is fantastic in every way. As there gun laws get more restrictive, more and more bow hunting only places are opening up. All the hunting is under high fence but most of the places are giant and it doesn't really take away from the hunt. I went with Dries Visser this time and was very pleased with his whole operation. He is a long time supporter of the LSBA which played heavily in my decision to go with him.The LSBA now has 4 sponsor members that are from Africa. I'm sure any of them would show you a great hunt.
As far as the costs go it really depends on what you want to spend. I kind of lost my mind and spent a lot but it can be done fairly cheaply.
You can look on the lsba site and find several hunts that will fit any price range.

Just to have some thing to work with I will use the numbers from our most resent sponsor.

Plane Ticket $2000.00 round trip non stop
Cost of hunt $1000.00 ( they are priced at $2000.00 but I heard they will be cut in half for LSBA members) This includes your daily fees, meals, guide ect and your choice of one trophy animal. This can be a Kudu, Gemsbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Bushbuck or Zebra.
you are going to want to shoot more than that, so lets add

Impala, Blesbuck, warthog and Steen buck for an addition cost of $1150.00

If you figure 10% for tips that would be another $250.00

It cost around $1000.00 to get your trophies back to the states

Total cost of around $3400.00 for a week in Africa with 5 animals.

Most of the hunting is done from ground blinds with a few tree stands used as well.

Most of the shots will be close, 15 to 20 yards.

If you have any more questions or If I can help in any way, Please feel free to call me at 903-576-1951

It looks more like $5,400 to me. I could be wrong though..... I don't think I will ever get to see that place..
