Hunter Education required for Army Corps of Engineers Land

Hello,

While checking out some links in another forum I found that hunter education is required in order to obtain a permit for Corps land. Some lands require it even if born before 1972.

I am waiting on an email from a Corps of Engineers, Natural Resources Specialist at this time. Does anyone know for sure if bowhunter ED would be accepted or should I go with the regular hunter ED?

I plan on doing the online course and one "Field Day". Are the curriculum and field days very different?

I know that on most military installations and CoE property which is Federal land they require the Regular Hunter Ed. Some but not all will require Bowhunter Ed to bowhunt. You just have to check with the controlling agency to determine what their requirements are.

All army corp of engineers public land requires you to have taken the hunter education class no matter how old you are. Some archery only areas are starting to require bowhunter education as well.

I have a friend that registered at Lake Whitney last week and he was told that he did not need a hunter education class starting this year if he was born before 1972. In the past everyone needed a hunter education card.

Shadow Slayer, Every hunter (including out of state hunters) born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, must successfully complete a Hunter Education Training Course to hunt in Texas. Minimum age requirement is 12 years. If you are under the age of 17 years, and have not had Hunter Ed. you must be accompanied by someone who is at least 17 yrs. old, has a current license to hunt in TX., and has passed Hunter Ed, or is exempt from having it. You can also buy a one time defferal for $10. Hope this helps.

I understand. In past years the Corp of Engineers required all hunters reguardless of age to have a hunter education card. This year it changed.

Whoever issued your friend a permit did not follow procedure or forgot, I called and they still require hunter ed regardless of age, it also states this in the corp district hunting guide.

And they must also sign a release on most USACE Lands, This must be Hunter Ed, Not the Bowhunter Ed, b/c this course is not approved yet. Some units require a test for Archery Hunting as well.

Bobster the defferal permit was dropped by the State of Texas this year.

Yes Sir Bobster, I stand corrected, they can purchase a "Hunter Education Deferral" and be accompanied.

Accompanied means: By a person( resident or non-resident) who is at least 17, who is licensed to hunt in Texas, who has passed hunter education or is exempt ( Born before Sept. 2 1971) and you must be within normal voice control. Proof of certification or deferral is required to be on your person while hunting.

Some COE lands don't honor the exemption.:naughty:
