I want to post some of the details for those that might be interested in bidding on the hunt in S. Africa.
The Safari is for 10 hunting days for 2 hunters.
All daily fees are free, this is about an 8.000 dollar value as most African concessions charge bowhunter between 300 and 400 a day.
This means that all your lodging, food, transportation, trackers, cook, guide, skinners, laundry, basicly everything is covered by your donation/bid at the banquet.
If you went and had a great time but did not shoot any animals, you would own nothing for a 10 day vacation for 2 people.
The hunt does not have to be taken this year, if you have already booked for this year, you can make this your 2008 hunt.
There are trophy fees on all animals, and while they are not cheap, they are not unreasonable. They are available at the web site www.barrelandbow.com
The outfitter, who I know personally and have hunted with, is a great guy. This hunt is perfect for someone who wants to experience Africa and take a couple or 3 or 4 animals. This hunt works great for people who do not have unlimited funds and are not trying to take 10 or 12 animals, but want to see and hunt Africa with out spending over 10 thousand. If you want to take a dozen animals, e-mail/or call me and we can talk, you may be better off paying daily fees and paying smaller trophy fees. If you are interested, let me work with you so you get a hunt that works for you.
I have more information coming from Marco, and can ansewer any questions you may have. He is a traditional bowhunter himself. He is very aware of bowhunting limitations. He works well with women and kids and new hunters as well. He is a young man, quiet, respectful, and very religious. That doesn't mean you could not party and cut up if you so chose....more just that you sould not worry about taking family if you get this hunt.
Speaking of family, this hunt would work great for a parent/teen type set up. If you want to take your son or daughter, but only want them to take say one nice trophy because of money, this is the hunt. Most hunts you would have to pay the daily fee and if they got their animal the first morning...you pay for all the days left. Here you only pay for what they shoot. Also no guilt if you want to take a day and go shopping or sight seeing because you are not paying to hunt that day. When I spend 375 to hunt that day....I feel like if I don't hunt I have wasted that money.
On most guided big game hunts, you will spend at least as much as this and hope to get one animal, here you will be able to take several for the same money. Don't forget that there are also small game and bird opportunities an no extra cost. I almost always declear one day bird hunting day and try to get as many as I can with my bow. Guinney fowl, doves, franklin, grouse, etc.
This has gotten very long, let me end for now and just answer questions as they come up. I am posting now so you can start thinking about if this is right for you. If you want to go with a friend, contact them and find out how much they can give on there half of the bid as it is for 2 hunters.
Feel free to contact me any time.
