I thought about titling this. Confessions of a Colorado Rookie, but thought this would probably catch your attention.
Not going to tell you too much here, as I need to write this one up for the magazine, but yes I'm back. Funny, because Mike on the other thread started calling me the Professor and that was my nickname in camp.
rns, you just think you were laughing at that picture he put together of me in a tree. You should have seen me on a horse!
Didn't have much luck with the Elk, but I did get a bear and will either post or send a picture on to be posted by Mike or Bob.
Lot of fun! I would like to go back in two years with an LSBA group. (It will take my bank account at least that long to recover), but I think it would be a memorable trip.
Edit: Here ya go Tomme

You know, I lost a black lab up there a few years back. He would be about full grown by now. HHHMMMM?????
Just kidding. I'm happy for you Tomme. I've wanted a bear hunt for some time now. Congrats on a great hunt. I can't wait to read the play by play. I'm sure it will make a good read.

What Brad said. I laughed my butt off just thinking about you riding a horse. I'll bet a picture of that would make the cover of the mag.

Ronnie they gave me a defectiv e horse. I couldn't find the horn, there was no steering wheel and no matter how loud I said left or right, that dumb animal just kept going the wrong way. Luckily though they do put this neat handle that sticks up on the front of the saddle so that when you kick him in the ribs and he takes off, that you can grab hold just before you go over the rear end.

I got him in NW Colorado about 12 miles south of Silt. There were a lot of bears in that area for anyone interested and there is BLM land to hunt on if you don't want to do the outfitter bit.
Something I didn't know before this year is that in a lot of these areas you have to apply for a tag over the internet as they go fast. I "drew" my tag on July 10th the first day they went on sale.
I was hunting at about 8500 ft and the one drawback for Elk was that there was just too much foliage. Didn't seem to hurt the bear hunting though. :D
My wallet needs some recovery time, but it might be neat to have an LSBA Bear/Elk hunt up there in 2008.

Tomme,
Do you happen to know an approx. weight of the bear you took?

Brandon, I was guessing between 200 and 250, but that's just a WAG.

I was guessing around 200# as well. After planning and going on my first bear hunt this year, I've looked at thousands of pics and was just curous how close I was on my guess.
