It was an outstanding weekend for the LSBA and TPWD at Mayfest in Ft. Worth this past Saturday and Sunday. The LSBA had over 1900 kids and their families fling arrows at our Youth Archery Range. We were busy from start to finish both days. I don’t think the LSBA has done an event of this magnitude since TPWD Expo in Austin in 2009.

This is the first year TPWD and the LSBA have been involved with Mayfest. This is Mayfest’s 39th year and the event draws over 100,000 visitors. TPWD made a maximum effort at Mayfest with full support of TPWD Headquarters in Austin. TPWD had many of the same attractions that were at the Expo in Austin and the LSBA did the Youth Archery Range. We’ve been partnering with TPWD for more years than I can remember setting up youth archery ranges across Texas. It was especially gratifying to see the confidence TPWD has in the LSBA to handle a large event like Mayfest. Visitors to our Youth Archery Range walked away with a smile on their faces and a positive impression of archery and bowhunters.

Sunday morning I was approached by representatives of Mayfest Committee to thank the LSBA for our efforts. They had received so much positive feedback from visitors about the archery range that they wanted to meet us and thank us personally!

Visitors had to pay admission to get into Mayfest but all TPWD venues were free. As always, no one was charged anything to shoot with us. No one was too young or too old to try archery. The LSBA membership can be proud of the efforts of all the volunteers that made this event such a success. Special thanks go to Region 75 Rep David Lassetter for organizing all the volunteers.

Thank you to all the volunteers! You did great!

Here are a few pictures.

Correction. Final numbers show we had 2100 shooters, not 1900.

That is a very impressive number!

Lassiter was taking all the good looking moms. Made it hard for us single guys to help properly.
