First, let me say, I didnt ever think I would find a bow that shot as good as my Diamond Black Ice. Silky smooth draw, quiet, light... the perfect hunting bow. I bet I have killed over 100 animals with that bow. I dont have anything bad to say about the bow. But like with everything else, it was time for a change. A buddy of mine, Glenn Scott, had his new Voyager VXT at the lease this past season. I shot it a few times and was sold! I had to have one. Time to retire the Black Ice.
Glenn is the shop manager over at West Houston Archery. He called me today to tell me my new 2011 Mission Voyager VXT had came in. I told him I'd be in next week to get it as I had to work tonight and was nap time. Well, the longer I laid there in bed, the more I thought about my bow, the more I wanted to shoot it. I figured I could sleep later I wanted to shoot my new bow NOW!
When I got to the shop, Glenn had already tied on a d loop and threw a whisker bisquit rest on it so i could make a few shots. I brought one of my arrows I used in Africa back in 2008, a Blackhawk Vapor with a 125 grain field tip. Total weight 447 grains. At 72 lbs, and a 27.5" draw length, the VXT was shootin 282 fps! I took the 125 grain tip off and put on a 100 grain tip. The arrow speed jumped up to 289 fps. I cant wait to see how it's gonna shot my 386 grain arrows. Should be shootin mid to high 290's. It's quiet, little to no hand shock, smooth draw cycle. I'm lovin it already!
I got the all black bow with orange/ black string and cable. Looks really nice. Changed out the big, funky wood grip with a smaller, slim, rubberized grip. Gonna rig it out with a spot hogg hogg it sight, trophy taker pronghorn rest, my 6 arrow (diamond) quiver (painted w/ black spray in bed liner/ turned out really good!), and whatever stabilizer that find. Doesnt really need a stabilizer, but I think they look cool!
I can tell I aint gonna get any sleep tomorrow either!
